Valve radio
Today saved this from the skip - 1940s Bush valve radio

No idea what I am going to do with it yet. It powers up to an extent, the valves glow and I can hear a buzz from the speaker but thats the lot

Well done! Too much of our heritage gets binned, so good job saving it.

If you really don't know what to do with it, you might find a museum that wants it (the kind that recreate rooms from the past).

Nice one John...
Great to see such treasures being saved... Thumbs Up

Used to have one similar in our living room when growing up... Whistle

I am sure with a bit of research and patience you could get that working again, there are even places still selling replacement valves... Shocked

I LOVE old valve radios.
Some of the German ones of the 50s were real works of art. Beautiful woodwork, & also very very good artwork for the controls etc.
Growing up in the UK, every househoild had a nice radio. Radio Luxemburg?!!....most had short wave, & we listened to that too.
I used to have a UK "PYE" radio in my bedroom, wooden cabinet, three speakers, M.W., L.W., & about 6 S.W. bands from memory,..all with "magic eye" tuning!
But beware, most things can be fixed, but sometimes it can be quite expensive.
Pickles.

I have a good friend in Kent who deals in valves. He has a good rep within the audio business. If you want his details PM me.

Cheers

I used to collect do a bit of restoration and repair on old radio's. Stick the model number into google and you should find it comes up with quite a few technical vintage radio sites and forums. You might find some of the old capacitors are past it but you can sometimes get away with just cleaning contacts. Do check the mains lead as they can degrade over time. Steve.

Hello,
Did you try connecting an aerial to the clip at the back? About 6 foot of wire should be enough to bring in some stations.
Cheers, David

There are two holes at the back for aerials tried both and just get a hum on the speaker, the hum does not change if I alter the volume - still the same level 1999 Defender TD5 110
