I have a Bosch S5 Silver Calcium in my 90 for the last 3 years. It has a five year warranty and still going strong. I have quite a few extras (heated seats, screen etc) and this doesn't seem to trouble it. They are well priced too.

Just been through this, I eventuall plumped for a Yuasa from Halfords. I could probably have saved a few quid going elsewhere, but didn't have the time.
The posts are reversed from the original and I had to make a new angle bracket to secure it. Odyssey seems to be highly recommended. I put an Optima in a previous defender and it was no problem. |

Worth reading this article from A&N. You might then go for the Bosch S5 as recommended above

The only benefit you get with Branded batteries is a longer guarantee, which to be honest is not sometimes worth the paper it’s printed on, try taking a Varta or similar three year guarantee battery back after two years and you will see what I mean, and the premium you pay for the extra years guarantee is ridiculously high. All batteries sold in the UK carry the same British Standard specs.
I always buy my batteries from ManBat, who incidentally make all the batteries for Halfords, who then add their guarantee premium. However if you buy direct from ManBat they are thirty per cent cheaper. In any respects it is not the make that is so important, nor the cranking amps, the power generated by the battery when the ignition key is turned, though obviously the higher the cranking amps the better, it is the cold cranking amps that you should be concerned with when the weather is cold and there is more strain on the battery, buy a battery with the highest cold cranking amps you can find and it will not let you down even on the coldest of mornings. Also worth considering if you do not use the Land Rover regularly is the new style of battery that is fitted to Campervans that gives both high cranking amps but slow discharge rates, this means that if you do not do a high mileage the battery will not go flat as fast as standard auto batteries. For those who like Welsh Mountains and narrow boats have a look at my videos and photos at.. http://www.youtube.com/user/conwy1 |

Use them all the time, reliable company. I always think the 069 is a little under gunned on a Landrover .... Can't go wrong with this one, deep cycle and under £90 delivered to your door http://www.tayna.co.uk/Numax-CXV30HRMF-P3673.html Guns and Landrovers .... anything else is irrelevant. |

Batteries with a two year guarantee usually last, err, two years.

My original factory Varta battery had a zero years guarantee I think, as it is considered a consumable by LR. Now after 6 and a half years and 72k km it is still going strong as on day 1 as far as I can tell. Eric You never actually own a Defender. You merely look after it for the next generation. http://youtu.be/yVRlSsJwD0o https://youtu.be/vmPr3oTHndg https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_GtzTT9Pdl0 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ABqKPz28e6A https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rLZ49Jce_n0 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XvAsz_ilQYU https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K8tMHiX9lSw https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=dxwjPuHIV7I https://vimeo.com/201482507 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZSixqL0iyHw |

I always buy Halfords 5 year guarantee batteries (they were Bosch, now Yuasa I think). They are cheap enough if you have a trade card, and not too expensive at full retail. Halfords replace them without quibble within the guarantee period. I don't think the batteries are actually any better or worse than anything else but that no-argument replacement for 5 years is worth a fortune IME!
