I bet the "how we did the stunt" film would be a lot more interesting than the actual stunt itself, shame we'll probably never see it!

I'm pleased that the 80" is Landrover's own vehicle since it means that LR will have co-operated in the stunt and the Beeb can't have been too cruel to a very nice 80"!

At the beginning of the year, in an evening with Top Gear, Hammond said two things about this stunt from memory
1. It was the scariest thing he's done on Top Gear and
2. We did it properly the Land Rover winches itself up the Dam.

Sone news stories using this vehicle and stating "BBC Worldwide released this image of the Land Rover used on the way to foot of the dam in the Elan Valley" - so maybe they used two different vehicles in the filming?

Small article about it on Welsh Water's website:

http://www.dwrcymru.com/en/News-Summary/20...n-Dam.aspx

"Standing at a magnificent 56 metres high and with an eye watering gradient of 72° the dam was seen as the perfect place to really put the vehicle to test."

and that vehicle in it's more normal surroundings:

Spiderman could do it and no doubt a rock climber would manage it with ease, but who would have thought that a 1930s Land Rover Defender would be brave enough to attempt to scale the wall of the Claerwen Dam at Dŵr Cymru Welsh Water’s Elan Valley Estate.

Defenders didn't exist until the 1990s!

Nor did Land Rover exist until 1948 Laughing I started with nothing and still have most of it left!

Actually,
Land Rover was conceived as a company as a subsidiary division of Rover motors in 1947
The first model was launched at the Amsterdam motor show in 1948 Wink My confidence has been writing cheques that my abilities can't cash for years.
