Coolant issues

I've been having some issues with my 300tdi 90. It has just been in for a cam belt, water pump, thermostat and radiator. I've had it back and now 2 weeks later I spotted a tiny leak on the "p" gasket. I have been keeping a close eye on the levels and noticed yesterday that after a 20 mile journey the water in the header tank was stone cold. Would this leak be enough to affect water circulation? The top hose is warm and also the heater constantly blows warm air but the temp gauge goes up and down with throttle movement.The gauge had started doing this before I had the work done and as the heater remained constantly warm I put the strange gauge down to a possible bad earth.

I'm obviously

that the P gasket wasn't changed when cam belt and water pump were done but I'm told that it isn't normal procedure to do that. Would the slight leak that I have be enough to affect the water pressurizing thus affecting circulation? Is it to be expected to be stone cold because I have a brand new radiator? Or are my problems much worse (head gasket)

No other sign or head gasket failure, no sludge in oil or coolant.

Could be an airlock

I had exactly the same on my 300

I had a fiddle with the connections of the temp sensor and gauge now works, it remains steady and heater still keeps blowing warm air.
I just can't relax with the water in the header tank remaining so cold.

Coolant in the expansion tank normally is cool mate. Wouldn't worry too much

There are two small hoses that join into one at a round Y piece going to the expansion tank. These can become totally blocked, give them a good flush through. I have known three cars that this happened on. 2015 RRS Autobiography SDV6

^^^^ agree with checking the small (self breeding/return ) pipes , can cause air lock problems

also might be worth checking its got the right thermostat fitted

some thermostats have a extra spring loaded washer on the bottom if that's missing it can cause odd things to happen

Thanks for your replies, the garage is an established Land Rover specialist therefore I'd hope the thermostat is correct

I've taken it back there now so we'll see what it's like when I get it back,

Had it back now, "p" gasket changed and everything seeems fine now! (Touches wood)
