Managed to start the ball rolling on a couple of things this weekend. New set of headlight surrounds and grill arrived this week so dropped those to the body shop for painting Saturday morning. So that's another job for next weekend.
LED interior lights arrived this week from the Far East, but at the request of SWMBO I've only fitted the one in the load area for now. Click image to enlarge It does highlight the difference between old and new lamps, but I'm still considering fitting a light over the 2nd row seat. The option of discreet single LED's above the seat belt mount was suggested as an alternative, so will look into this as well. Even got round to giving it a wash but don't think that will happen too regularly. On a negative note the fan speed control switch has jammed solid yesterday. And so commences what no doubt will be the first of many warranty visits 2007 - Stornoway Grey 90 XS SW - Gone 2002 - Black Discovery II - Gone 2014 - Montalcino Red 110 XS SW Last edited by Rosco on 31st Jul 2017 8:02pm. Couple of jobs sorted this week.
We'll start with the visit to the dealers, on Tuesday. The dealer collected the car, and rang me at 1pm to confirm the switch was faulty, they need to order the part, etc, etc. The option they gave was either leave the car with them over night (no offer of replacement transport) or I could have it back and they'd re-book it for Wednesday this week. A short discussion about lack of transport, suggesting I live without a heater for over a week, and the fact it's me paying out for the diesel to correct faulty parts and magically they found a new switch to fit. Why fob people off in the first place? They kindly left the faulty switch on the passenger seat, but of concern is the fact there are signs of melted plastic Click image to enlarge I also got round to fitting the anderson connector to the front bumper. Found this to keep in keeping with the black on red theme Click image to enlarge I may have gone a little over kill on the lead length Click image to enlarge And finally, time to switch the grill/headlight surrounds. I'll be the first to admit that the quality of the painting isn't fantastic, but he's only charged me a few beer tokens, and you only really notice it up really close. Click image to enlarge Click image to enlarge Bonnet lettering to do next. Click image to enlarge Still unsure whether to put the grill badge back on? 2007 - Stornoway Grey 90 XS SW - Gone 2002 - Black Discovery II - Gone 2014 - Montalcino Red 110 XS SW Last edited by Rosco on 31st Jul 2017 8:34pm. I got a price on the santorini grills from Duckworth's and it was a £200+, and I want to keep hold of the Brunel set JIC I change my mind.
Grill set off ebay for £30 and another £30 at the painters works for me. Anderson boot is on there as well, but wasn't sure how far the plug projected out, and again another ebay find at the right price. Think I might put the badge back, but do I find a black one of those as well? 2007 - Stornoway Grey 90 XS SW - Gone 2002 - Black Discovery II - Gone 2014 - Montalcino Red 110 XS SW |

TJ, yep headlight surrounds are £45 each, but the grill is £220 alone.
Not the best, but a much better value option IMHO 2007 - Stornoway Grey 90 XS SW - Gone 2002 - Black Discovery II - Gone 2014 - Montalcino Red 110 XS SW |

Hi Rosco Silly price just for the grill
I did paint the grill, as have one that's been swapped from previous Defender's, as its been cut, to recess the lamps and winch a bit further back California F1, 75th 110 "Kermit", 50th Ann V8, 90 V8 Hybrid, 55 Series 1 Main Brian James Trailer Dealer for South West UK |

Nothing much to report, rolled over the 2500 mile mark, and fitted the footwell mats purchase from Familymad.
To my untrained ears it seems to have had a sound deadening effect. How long it takes for the missus to spot them is another question. 2007 - Stornoway Grey 90 XS SW - Gone 2002 - Black Discovery II - Gone 2014 - Montalcino Red 110 XS SW |

Have you fitted an isolator between anderson and battery? If not, some little halfwit will short it out....

So after venturing out to get the tyres muddy for the first time with x-isle and chris86 not too much has happened until today
Click image to enlarge After yesterday's visit to Speedy for a meeting and a look at their toys Click image to enlarge It was off to the stealers this morning for the warranty recall on the hubs and to look at the water leaks I've noticed over the last week or so. Hubs all sorted but back in a fortnight for new door seals. Hopefully they've diagnosed it properly. Then this afternoon off to test the tow ball for the first time and collect a box trailer my scout group has just purchased Click image to enlarge Big thanks to Lichfield Trailer Centre/All-fit for a cracking deal Also received the underside bar from Tonyrec and have the diff guard from x-isle to fit, as well as the long awaited bonnet letters. Finally got the chance to have a go at fitting the black bonnet letter to match the grill and headlight surrounds
I purchased this set from the bay http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Gloss-Black-bonn...58bfe71f59 (although it may have been a similar set as i've had it that long I can't find it in my history) Kit came with a handy template to use Click image to enlarge Not wanting to make a complete arse of it, I took the letters off one at a time, and even permitted to use the dogs hair drier (why does the dog have a hair drier???? ) Click image to enlarge Click image to enlarge Click image to enlarge Click image to enlarge Not a bad hour spent, and hopefully they will all be sat in the same place in the morning. 2007 - Stornoway Grey 90 XS SW - Gone 2002 - Black Discovery II - Gone 2014 - Montalcino Red 110 XS SW Last edited by Rosco on 31st Jul 2017 9:14pm. Stafford are one of the good ones! Always gone that extra little bit. Although, not actually taken the Defender, they are a good Defender dealer I'm led to believe due to the amount of Farmers in the area. Craig Rogers 2007 Puma 110 XS 2011 Evoque Coupe Dynamic Lux www.craigrogers.photography |
