Unfortunately the OP is quite correct, this was posted on a watch forum on the 1/2/15 Shocked
TT

"An insurance company has threatened to void the policy of a Christian minister because she put religious stickers on her car.

Rev Wena Parry, 75, was told that stickers saying "Christ Must Be Saviour" and "Christ For Me" could be regarded as "modifications" and could invalidate her insurance policy."

Good Afternoon

We have received several requests for clarification surrounding what needs to be disclosed when discussing modifications.

As an independent insurance broker, we have over 40 insurers on our panel covering a variety of policy types. Most of our insurers have specific contracts to target certain sectors of the market where their experience and knowledge is best suited to give the right level of cover for our clients – with several insurers specifically targeting modified vehicles.

There is no universally accepted definition of what constitutes a modification, therefore it is advisable to give as much information to ensure you are correctly insured.

At A-Plan we would request to be advised if a vehicle has been modified, altered or adapted, to encourage conversation surrounding potential exposure and in almost all cases stickers and decals do not have an adverse impact on the premium.

This is our interpretation and therefore not an industry wide statement, however if club/forum members have any doubt as to whether they are correctly covered with their existing insurer please do contact us on 01635 874646 and we will be happy to assist.

Thanks

Most of my insurers wouldn't mind if vehicles have stickers and decals on them, however I am not the whole insurance industry, and as this case proves not all insurers have the same views on what should and shouldn't be declared.

It means anybody insured with A-Plan is perfectly fine with a Defender2.net sticker Thumbs Up Howden Insurance - Specialist Vehicle

Thank you for taking the time to try and clarify this point Clare... Thumbs Up

However, I fail to see under what circumstances a sticker can qualify any vehicle as having been modified, altered or adapted in circumstances that would affect its performance or otherwise affect it for insurance purposes!

Isn't it just a case of the motor insurance industry taking the pee out of it's captive audience - the unsuspecting motorist?

It is utterly preposterous and simply would not stand up to any close scrutiny by anyone of sane mind...

I think if I ever have a claim rejected for such a spurious reason I will be taking the insurance company to court. Rhubarb and custard let fly with their secret weapon.

I suspect that the real point is that if the windows are so plastered in stickers that visibility is compromised (and there are some round here like that) then you're trouble. Also if you had inflammatory or provocate stickers (eg about God etc) that may provoke someone into trashing your car, you may be in trouble.

I cannot see that a normal selection of inoffensive stickers would be a problem unless expressly prohibited in the small print.

@blackwolf - In both your examples I believe it would be a case for the law of the land, which insurers are not... Rolling Eyes

Yes, would be illegal, but you'll also be uninsured.

Indeed, but lawbreakers of any kind are effectively un-insuring themselves anyway... Shocked

Whether it is speeding, no tax or drink driving, whatever, as soon as you break the law the insurers will drop you like a ton of bricks... Rolling Eyes
