Puma bonnet release - heads up re. bonnet thefts
The following was posted on the LandyWatch forum yesterday. I'd heard/knew about the radiator grill trick and the approach to combat it but just like the OP, I wasn't aware of the wing top blanking plate approach. Just thought it might be a useful heads up....

It is also made worse by some conversion companies replacing the plastic blanking plate with a open wire mesh. A quick hook???

Plastic plate can be broken with a quick hammer blow so use a solid metal one and body filler in the screw heads.

Another alternative is a solid ali wing top. OK might look odd as a non matched pair.

also use dome headed screws on the top of the plate and secure from below Whistle

Great!!! Had cable put in stainless steel rod by latch so could not pull, nothing thing to worry about. At least I know how to open bonnet if latch gets Censored ! Been in my head, for a while, to get heavy weight padlock and hasp put on bonnet/wing anyway.

PS Cheap way to make it slightly more difficult is to drill out screw/hex head part of bolts. Yes, I know there are tools to get around this but its worth a punt!

Don't you think that the scroats allready know the different ways to get into a Defender, I for one would much prefer to see these type of posts so that all owners are aware of the vulnerable points on their motors.

I might be being a little dim, but (luckily) there's not too much theft over here. As such, is this actually theft of the 'bonnet' or merely ingress for theft of the vehicle as a whole? Shocked Monsieur Le Grenadier

Bonnets and doors are often taken leaving the motor behind. Doesn't take many minutes to whip them off with the right tools.

I like the idea of the lockers a lot... Thumbs Up

But the external hinge and raised lock are a big fail for me... Shocked

Just me being picky perhaps, but how much better would it be if the hinge was hidden and the lock sunken into the top with a cover fitted, especially given the asking price... Whistle

Those lockers are also too big to go through most wing top chequer plate panels
