It's well known that insurance companies will try and find any excuse to not pay up when you make a claim but the recent news of " any stickers not declared at time of policy constitutes as not insured " have you told your company about yours ?

It's a modification (apparently), so must be declared (I dont agree personally).
Apparently stickers make your car faster ![]() I'm not sure how 'heavy' (cant think of right word) all brokers are are this though. Some might be lax and some might not care if you stickers the life out of your car, but some can be quite nasty about them! |

Nothing about insurance companies would surprise me.
I was in discussion to get a quote on a Defender 200 tdi 110 over the phone. "We don't have that on our system but I'll put it down as a Discovery, as they are the same" came the reply. The fact that the tdi had 9 seats and the Discovery 7 didn't seem to register. Dread to think how a claim for the tdi would have have gone if I'd accepted the quote. Another time I was asked if there was anyone else I wanted to put on the insurance policy. "Yes" I replied "the wife". "Are you married to her?" came the reply. ![]() 1992 110 200tdi csw -Zikali 2008 110 2.4 tdci csw-Zulu 2011 110 2.4 tdci csw-Masai |

No different to energy companies, they need taking to hand and taking control of.
Of course this govt will never do that, they are in league with them just the same slipping it into their back pockets. Why should we be controlled in every aspect of what we do, as long as it's safe why do it for in the first place. We don't all want to be standard eurobox sheep. Same with performance cars, just because you have all the mods doesn't mean your a maniac and drive 110mph down the motorway |

As a serial modifier I have always declared everything no matter how trivial it might be.
In most cases the response is thanks for letting us know there will be no change to the cost of your policy. For example with the Defender I declared the tow bar as although it was a factory fit it was still not standard and is an extra fitted to the vehicle if that makes sense. With my other cars I have a word document that lists every change i have made, when it's renewal time this is faxed or sent by email to the company so that I am 100% they have been informed what they are insuring. Of course with those 2 I am insured with a specialist insurer through an owners club but the sending of a detailed spec sheet to your insurer does no harm especially these days when they try to wriggle out of any pay out. Regarding the small business advertising vinyls, they would have been shirty about that as they would want to be sure the vehicle wasn't being used for the business when insured as a private car. |
