Le Mans 2015 (13-14 Jun)
Never been to Le Mans and always fancied it. My lad will be 13 then and we've done a little bit of camping at stuff like Santa Pod but are think of heading down the Le Mans this year. We usually kip in the back of the Landy when we go away so the plan would be similar but could maybe borrow a mate's roof tent (or shell out for one) if need be.

Anyone going?

Cheers

I have been going for the last 25 years and its a great experience.
The main camp site is massive and gets very busy. For this reason I would suggest a ground tent so if you need to go to the
supermarket for beer and food you have a tent to come back to. If you have a roof tent you could come back to the campsite and find your space has gone. If you can get there Thurs or Fri all the better as you have more choice as to were to pitch your Tent. Le Mans is a learning curve. You have to go and then see what you need to do and bring for the next year.
Go for it, your son will love it.

Keep an eye out for a white D4 with DISCO4 forum sticker, and come and have a beer. Thumbs Up 2021 Defender 110 X-Dynamic HSE D300 MHEV

Thanks for the tips. Re: ground tent to save our space, never thought of that. Great tip.

GarethR: we will hunt you down, a Yorkshireman never misses the offer of a beer Smile

We went last year in my 110 with the 2 boys. We ended up camping on the Porsche curves through 'travel Destinations'. It wasn't the cheapest, but great campsite, on the circuit, clean facilities, bar and food .. Couldn't have been better.

I had it on my 'bucket list' to go once. So went in '11 and couldn't help going back in '12,'13 and last year.
Eash year I get a little more knowledge of my surroudings, but last year was by far the best, because I took a bicycle. I figure the whole event kinda like a motor sport Centerparc. With a bike you can easliy get to all the great viewing points. Into town for a few beers. Go to the supermarkets and get some baguattes & cheese and generally mouch about the place. Especially the wed>fri ...

Ohh and then there's a race ...

I'm outbound on the tuesday Thumbs Up

We're going with Team Langoustine again and staying on the inside of Tetre Rouge. Plus 1 for the bike idea, this year the rules are folding bikes for under £40 and team colours.
I enjoy the Friday evening drivers parade in town. Get the tram in from Antares and enjoy a few beers.😜

I went to Le Mans about 10 years ago on a real spur of the moment thing, joining a guy from the Camel Trophy forum who was going down in a Locost and wanted someone to share the fuel bill !

It was awesome Thumbs Up

I'd love to do it again this year and take my eldest son, anyone already have a pitch booked that they could sublet (we'll bring plenty of beer and JD) ???

Always been a 'must do' for me too. Friend from the Dordogne goes every year, stays in one of these super-dooper-uber coach camping things. I've promised I'd go this year, but would certainly prefer doing it in the 110 with fellow Def2.Net campers. Have some petrol head mates in Cham keen to come too. Can we just rock up on the Thurs or or pre-booking a must. As an Estate Agent, a middle of summer weekend is a popular time for viewings, so may have to decide last minute. Any advice? I'm no expert but from what I've learned you'd be lucky to get a camping spot on the Thursday. Entrance tickets are probably ok.
I always marvel at the hardcore nutters who set up camps in some of the surrounding car parks for 3 or 4 days.

Le Mans should be on everyones must do once in a lifetime list but, beware, it could be addictive.
