2007 90 XS smoking!?!
Hello,

I've just bought what I thought was a very tidy silver 2007 XS with 18k miles on the clock. All seems OK, most weird is that this one seems to be waterproof!?!!!

However I've just noticed that on starting it emits a good cloud of smoke when cold and when warm it does blow a lot of smoke around the 2500rpm range between changes from 2nd/3rd/4th gear.

Any thoughts on what this could be? I need to be quick as warranty runs out end-Sept Sad

Possible EGR Valve???? Get the dealers to sort it....EGR Valves do not always throw up a latched fault, however they are a reknowned problematic item. With a little persistance you should be able to get it swapped out under warranty. Not necessarily stating that it may be 100% the cause to your problem but it will discount a likely item if the fault persists! EGR Valves are synonimous with smoking and loss of power issues...Do a search on here under EGR Valve....

Thumbs Up If you go through life with your head in the sand....all people will see is an ar5e!!

Treat every day as if it is your last....one day you will be right!!

Do you allow the glow plugs to warm up before cranking it over?

The injectors may need re programing or whatever its called.

Or the above as described by K9F.

Take it to your dealer and get it checked Thumbs Up it will be a warranty claim whatever it is. 130's have feeling's as well you know Smile

Hello,

I have had the same problems.
Smoke between gear changes was solved after changing the turbo. The turbo whisled a little and that whas an indication of internal leakage.
Smoke on cold start for 5 till 10 seconds combined with a feeling the engine is running on 3 cilinders whas caused by a problem with the injectors. Seemed there was a to big difference between the injectors compared to eachother. They were changed and now its free of any smoke. Bow down

been in at the garage today and they've said no EGR faults/issues and they can't get it to smoke much between gear changes. It's James Edwards in Chester and they have been faultless so far with me.

Problem is that factory warranty is up End-Sept so I wouldn't really want to have to replace a turbo Sad

Drive it and take note when you notice the smoke ie engine revs, road speed, road conditions. Better still see if you can get it to smoke on a road that is close to them, perhaps Sealand Road. Then get the techy in the car and demonstrate the problem.
The thing is when you have an issue and take the vehicle in, Land Rover ask the dealer if they can replicate the problem. If they cant then there is nothing they can do as Land Rover will reject any claim that is put through and the dealer wont get paid.
Now if you can get the techy to witness the smoke he will have to report back to land Rover that he has seen the excessive smoke and they will have to do something about it.
The fact that you have reported the problem before the warranty has expired should not affect the claim. 130's have feeling's as well you know Smile

The oil is not overfilled above the mark? I have seen it burn off until it finds its own level.... 2008 RS4 gone, 123d M Sport, and a Puma 90 XS..

try this

acceleration up to 2000-2200rpm then left your right foot, at 1800 rpm give a little (but a very little) of gas seeing the left mirror ( pay attention, choose a large street w/o traffic Thumbs Up )....... Discovery 5 td6 HSE Stornoway Gray Outback Engineering Limited Edition

It's come back from James Edwards and is if anything worse than before, They said they had the car on real time monitoring for a day and the EGR readings were normal.

If I sit on a motorway in 6th at about 2000-2150rpm then nearly always when i tap the throttle there is a cloud of black smoke!??!

Factory warranty runs out at the end of the month too, but at 19k miles on the clock surely this shouldn't be happening!?!?

Perhaps it might help if you brought it to a garage that does pre m.o.t. checks and get them to check the emissions. If the emissions are out of the legal parameters there is something wrong. Armed with the read out you should be able to convince the main dealer that something is amiss. 1982 88" 2.25 diesel

Mine was the same and was a faulty EGR valve (too slow operation).

try t disconnect the EGR electric connector (the MIL lamp will go on) and try the test.

then you will connect again the EGR connector and after 3 driving cycles the MIL lamp will go off.

you can use this way for have the MIL on and go to the dealer Whistle Whistle Twisted Evil Twisted Evil Discovery 5 td6 HSE Stornoway Gray Outback Engineering Limited Edition
