Is it worth fixing?
Hi lads,

Looking for some advice, smashed my ninety into a few trees and a lampost yesterday. Would you recommend i fix it or should i just leave it for the insurance company to decide? Front of the chassis is bent inwards slightly where the front bumper attaches. Vehicle starts and drives as normal, but makes a louder noise than usual.

All help, advice, feedback appreciated.

Cheers,

Joe.

Depends purely on what type of insurance you have...excess, next year's premium increase, are you protected etc etc. Also you need to get 'someone in the know' to give you a figure on how much to get it sorted, your insurance company may decide to write it off, you then need to find out how much it will cost you to 'buy back' off them and add it to the quote to sort it out to see if it's financially viable! If you go through life with your head in the sand....all people will see is an ar5e!!

Treat every day as if it is your last....one day you will be right!!

I'm afraid that looks like a write off to me.... use the insurance money to buy a undamaged one. They are rarely perfect after a big shunt like that... good to hear you are OK. 2008 RS4 gone, 123d M Sport, and a Puma 90 XS..

Thanks guys, my dads mate has had a look at it this evening and he reckons it'll never drive the same again and thinks it'd be a waste of time fixing due to the cost and all the effort it'll take. I wouldn't like to speculate myself but i have a feeling the insurance company won't want to fix it. I have been wanting a double-cab for a while now! Laughing

Just a tip, before it goes to the insurance, strip off anything you would like to keep.

I had a volvo written off last year, i took out hands free, mats, spare wheel etc.
Could be worth taking the chequre plate off and swapping the rims.

I recken they will write it off, my volvo only had a light front end but due to needing intercooler, air con and normal radiator it was written off.

A Defender is unusual in that virtually any damage can be rebuilt.

Insurance company will write it off due to the cost of new parts from Land Rover, but repairing it yourself/getting it repaired yourself means you can use second hand parts from whatever source you want.

Any more photos? What does the other side look like? It looks from that photo that the bulkhead is ok, as are the oily bits.

Apart from the bulkhead, it does look like you've damaged almost every panel, and you might need a new chassis - depending on what damage the leg has (looks twisted but could be the photo angle) Confused

Main thing is that it did its job and you're ok - guess you must be if you're posting on here Thumbs Up  1988 90 Td5 NAS soft top

And perhaps I have a different view as an owner of a rebuilt 1988 90 rather than a Puma Wink  1988 90 Td5 NAS soft top
