Advice?
Well my advice is to do it, but I haven't done it yet. It's on the list There are plenty of kits for ~£40-60 and it's an easy job - benefits are small, but small things add up to big things. Theoretically it means ever so slightly better fuel consumption and power 1%(-/+ ) and possibly cooler engine temp which helps extend the life of the engine. Hopefully someone who's done it can prove this and get me off my lazy arse! |

It's cheap and easy to do and you get a lot of low down power back so definately a winner

To achieve full benefit on a TD5 you need to do more than simply 'blank' the EGR. Most decent-quality kits include a component to replace completely the discharge venturi on the inlet manifold, since this is a significant constrictino to engine breathing. So on a TD5 the EGR removal process is usually to blank the outlet from the manifold leading to the EGR cooler with a blanking plate, remov and discard the pipe from exhaust manifold to EGR cooler, reomave and discard the pipe from the cooler to the discharge venturi, replace the discharge venturi with the plain pipe supplied with the kit.
When I did mine I also removed entirely the EGR cooler and simplified the coolant plumbing, though this requires a reducer to join two hoses of different bores. Many people simply leave it. The above is based on the 15P later engines, the earlier ones I think didn't have the cooler anyway. It is definitely worth doing the modification since it has more effect than you expect. I also suggest keeping the parts you remove since technically you need them refitted for an MOT now. |

Soak the bolts for a while before trying to remove them. The heat can rust them in and although it's fixable a broken bolt is a right pain to drill out in situ.
Agree it's worth doing, smoother and better mpg. |

Thanks chaps. I have gone ahead and sorted it. Noticeable new low down pull as suggested. The engine seems to also run a little cooler. Well happy, thanks for your comments. 2001 DEF TD5 County
