I've been inspired by AndrewS's Longshanks work of ark and him trying to make best use of the space in the vehilce, by relocating the two batteries to outside of chassis rail.
Theres a bit of info here: http://www.smartgauge.co.uk/batt_con.html So, has anybody used multiple smaller batteries to replace one or two big ones? I'm thinking of maybe 8 or ten large motorbike batteries mounted in fabricated boxes along the inside of the chassis rails and/or anywhere else I can cram them. Normal size batteries wont fit on the inside of chassis rails because of propshaft and exhaust. I dont want to use outside of rails, as I want aux fuel tanks. Thoughts? |

Four of these would make 60Ah and 1480 CCA, compared to an Odyssey PC1500 which makes 68Ah and 1500CCA. 2 banks of four, would pretty much produce the same power as a pair of Odyssey 1500's unless I'm missing a trick. |

No reason why it couldn't work in theory, you get banks made up of big batteries all the time.
That's not going to be cheap though, those little batteries look like they'll work out at twice the price per Ah and PC1500s aren't cheap to start with. Then you'll have the fun of wiring them all up sensibly which will be interesting and you're not going to be able to monitor them individually either. If one of a bank goes wrong it will be tricky finding out which one. I think if you've got a good reason to be thinking about it and can accept the minor issues then go for it, but I'd be looking at making a different compromise to make my life easier. With a bit of effort you can fit two standard batteries in the battery box, how much do you gain from this? |
