Changed my engine oil at 6000 miles on the clock using Millers xf C1, the oil drained was black as you would expect from a diesel engine
But I was surprised at the air filter which I just changed today at 7000 miles - and LR dont even change it at 12,000 miles  and as I have found in the past are too lazy to check the filter if it is not on the schedule to be replaced.
New Mann C25122 fitted and i'm sure the engine will be happy

good stuff !
is that a couple of red anodised valves in the back ground - presume you also have a gas flowed head to accommodate them? and on a serious note I like to change oil and filters every 6000 miles - easy job, relatively cheap parts yet critical to the running. |

Two critical easy items that keep vehicle running right Nothing as technical as valves in the background, wine glass stems which will be filled with red lubricant in a minute

You were spot on with wine glasses - Cheers to you also They are now filled and being consumed, dont get many glasses per bottle - think i'll have to start another consumption thread  |

very easy to do - I unplugged the air flow cable, undid jubilee clip to flexible pie that goes from filter box to turbo and pulled off the pipe, then only 2 clips to undo that hold the air filter box lid on, take of the lid throw away old filter fit new and put all back together (approx 5 minutes) Make sure new filter is pushed into the base compartment as per the one take out - it is a tight fit. If filter put in correct the lid refits easily. |

(I was only joking for those that may have thought I was being serious).... and even I can second the air filter replacement is easy.....just double check the lid is indeed correctly fitted at the back under the wing top. |

Thats quite black for 7k miles
do you drive in heavy traffic ? exhaust blow ? I know air is drawn in from outside , but worth checking also the paper looks like it may have got wet at sometime i never changed mine for 20k and it didnt look as dirty as that |

I travel to from work each day which is 72 mile road trip comprising of approx 32 miles on the M4, 20 miles on the A465 and A4061, When in work I do a minimum 10 miles per day on forestry tracks So I would not say i'm in built up traffic but will get a lot of dirty spray getting sucked in and then there's the stone tracks - hence why I bought a LR RAI which should improve things (need to seal all the crappy LR pipe work to the airbox tho) My Hilux also has a snorkel with the snout facing front and I have to change the air filter every 5,000 miles - going to turn the snout around which again will improve things for the air filter I stupidly a few years ago riveted the snout to stop it being stolen, waste of time having the snout forward as the truck does not go anywhere fast enough to have any improvements from RAM air (I had lot of motorbikes over 30 years and still have 2 now - you need good amount of speed to have ram air improve things eg ZZR1100 etc ) |

MannHummel air filters are what Land Rover use for factory fitting I've lead to believe. I use them on my TD5.

Here's mine at 10,000 miles. I was more concerned that the lower fibre element was detached over a quarter of its length:
