Just popped into my Defender for the short drive home. It is covered in a mix of melting snow, mud and salt. The windscreen is covered. I am about to upgrade to some Silblades, but does anyone know of any upgrades to the washer jets? Monsieur Le Grenadier

Found them to be not very good personally, and others have mentioned it recently, for me Bosch are better, others say areo are better, but I prefer my blades from the main dealer (well Dan at Duckworth's), as I find them to be the best and quieter.

I've bought aero ones from eBay and been really pleased with them.
Really good prices on there too. |

Thanks Phil, the Mercedes option looks like a great fix. Better than gluing on the Traffic versions, which being Renault will probably break anyway. Stick with German tech. Will try to track them down. Cheers.

I use Silblades and find them good but I don't cover many miles in my Landy so they have lasted me well and give me excellent service. The Bosch ones also get good reviews and we have them on our other family vehicle. If the expensive cost of the Silblades sits comfotably with you I don't think you'd be disappointed if you bought them. Nevertheless opinions vary. Ultimately you decide but with either one you'll be getting a good wipe! Rainex is also very good if the roads are dirty. If you can adjust the jets with a small pin perfectly (took me a while of trial and error) I could not personally justify the upgrading of the washers as mine seem ok coupled with a decent set of blades.

I fitted Vito washer jets to mine and screwed a tee piece into the original central mounted washer jet works a treat just note if you use the Vito pipe kits they come with a joining piece that's meant to clip onto the Vito wiper arm, the joining piece has a small pin hole in it to squirt a fine jet of water onto the screen as the arm sweeps across it this will have to be blocked as the joining piece is ideal for clipping the pipe to the lower windscreen gutter!
the Vito pipe is also small enough to pass thru the spring on the wiper arm making it a neater job hope this helps kevin |

Here’s the mod I did to my screen wash on my Puma 90 I modded my washer jet nozzle so I could fit two lengths of washer pipe to it. Then looped the pipe out of the washer nozzle along the bottom of the screen gutter and looped back up along the wiper arms to triple washer jets fixed to the wiper arms. This gives a great spray directly on to the screen where needed and combined with Bosch AR13 Aero blades and a good screen wash gives a great screen clean under bad weather conditions.
Triple washer jet EBay item eBay Item No. 351286987143. Washer pipe DNC101720 1 mtr After removing the washer nozzle, the two jet tubes can be seen on the inside they are almost round with just a small flat section on the front as the complete thing is a one piece moulding. ![]() Click image to enlarge The moulding has to be cut and trimmed ![]() Click image to enlarge Just to leave the two tubes ![]() Click image to enlarge The washer nozzle is then refitted and new pipes attached to the tubes. When trimming the tubes check the diameter will allow the new pipe to push on tight. ![]() Click image to enlarge Run the new pipes along the gutter and loop it back up the wiper arms. I tywraped it to the gutter and along the wiper arms, added a short length of convoluted tube where it would rub on the gutter edge when the wipers are working. ![]() Click image to enlarge Attach the new triple nozzle jets to the tops of the wiper arms and cut pipe to length and fit to nozzle. I had to replace the self tapping screws that clamped them on with 3mm bolts and nuts. The self tappers rusted up and were hard to remove. They have to be removable to allow the wiper blade to be attached to the arm but they are in the optimal position high up the arm so I don’t mind removing them each time I replace the blades. ![]() Click image to enlarge They have been on for about a year now and work well giving a good screen clean even under bad weather conditions. The only thing I have not experienced with them yet is in below zero conditions for a prolonged length of time. With the tube being exposed I think they could freeze up but not often in this neck of the woods. I am using screen wash fluid neatish so that should be ok for very low temps. Hope this helps. Fletch. |
