Because is an engine designed for 180CV and more..... (eg Ford Galaxy Germany version)....
So it can do a lot more.... Depends only from the electronics (and from piezo injectors [not simply solenoids like ours] installed on Galaxy). p.s. our injectors are more strong vs bad diesel, piezo injectors have more trouble with low quality fuel. My Defender with BAS remap doesn't smoke, NEVER, I tried at 2800m (Stelvio pass) and no smoke anymore Discovery 5 td6 HSE Stornoway Gray Outback Engineering Limited Edition IID Pro MV License Last edited by dgardel on 25th Aug 2010 7:29am. no, cat isn't the DPF, if you have a "smoky" motor, cat or w/o cat the exhaust pipe show you the color of darkness.... Discovery 5 td6 HSE Stornoway Gray Outback Engineering Limited Edition IID Pro MV License |

As an aside - in South Africa we don't have catalysers. Well, I don't
If you read your chassis number, the 8'th letter is either an S or T The s- is for the euro specked engine with catalyser and the T is for non catalysed |

Wow, didn't know that. Just checked, mine's also T. I wonder why ours don't have a cat? Bad quality diesel? |

Mine smokes a bit (2007) - e.g. at 5th gear, flat road, when I depress the accelerator pedal and press it again I can see a little of smoke. It does so from the beginning. Janusz

it is not the engine, is the EGR valve delay, may be you need to check it, is a common problem for the 2007 EGR valve type. Discovery 5 td6 HSE Stornoway Gray Outback Engineering Limited Edition IID Pro MV License |

My 2007 Puma doesn't seem to smoke much (at least I haven't noticed it smoking) but the tailpipe is very sooty and black. Several others I have looked at in car parks also seems to be sooty. Is this normal?
Mind you my TD5 Discovery is also fairly sooty up the tailpipe, though not as much as the Defender. |

Sort of goes against the saying 'no smoke, no poke'!
Having said that the only time mine has ever given off any noticeable amount of smoke if after a few weeks of dawdling around town at low revs, then booting it onto the motorway there was a nice cloud of smoke visible in the rear view mirror. But thats the only time it's ever done it. |
