I disagree. As an advert, it will appeal to a whole new market of drivers for whom the smart is probably perfect. As a smart/defender driver I am not inclined to swap either for a skateboard but then I probably wouldn't swap either for anything. I love my defender but my shopping trolley has a place in my heart too.

Every smart car ever made is hideous! Don't get them at all.
If you want a small car get a VW Up!, skoda CitiGo, toyota Aygo etc. much better cars and better looking by miles. You can even get the toyota auris as a hybrid  Cheers, David

Saw one on the road here yesterday. From the back actually I was first not sure what it was. Thought of a new Nissan Micra or some other characterless Jap... Smart seems to be loosing its identity.
 You never actually own a Defender. You merely look after it for the next generation.

It's a shared platform with the new Twingo great turning circle very well made price point a little better than before. ugly yes but the phrase is its so ugly it's beautiful lol

I have an up! In the household as well as the LR and Mercedes. Simply brilliant. Sips fuel, comfortable fairly refined air com CD player and with its snow tyres competent in bad conditions and ice . On our second one. Had the first one 2 years now this once is 4 months old. 2001 Td5 CSW (weekend and snow mobile) Plenty of lights, M/T tyres EGR delete, roofrack, swing away wheel carrier, snorkel.
