Dear god why didn't I think of that
![]() Of course turning off the map would result in the egr reverting back into life! I am sure I've got the early signs of dementia!!! Thanks Tigup ![]() Still i am am pretty sure Pete told me it would still go through the self clean cycle? 2023 Defender L663 V8 2016 Range Rover Autobiography 4.4 TDV8 (gone) 2010 110 XS Utility 2.4TDCI 2010 Range Rover Sport TDV8 (gone) 2007 Discovery HSE TDV6 (gone) 1993 110 csw 200 tdi (gone) 1994 90 HT 300 tdi (gone) 1994 discovery 300tdi (gone) 90 hybrid 3.5 v8 (gone) Range rover bobtail 3.5 v8 (gone) |

Why would you want it to self clean if you had a blank fitted? If it's blanked as well as mapped there will be no soot getting near it.
You can on some maps have the cleaning cycle continue on shutdown but it stays closed or completely off. Which ever way it is it ought to be blanked off. |

Makes me wonder if our EGR is blanked off as I'never heard ours make this noise you all refer to. 2015 Audi Q3 Quattro S Line Plus 184 TDI Stronic

It probably is, you'll only tell if it's phisically blanked by visibly checking.
But most likely if the EGR isn't shut by tune then it will create the MIL if a blank if fitted. So in your case it is tuned or it would show the MIL. (Amber dash warning light) It may not have a blank fitted though but my guess it has, it's best practice to anyway. You can have the EGR blanking plate fitted and shut off completely or with the cleaning cycle on only. Personally I don't see the point in having the cleaning cycle continue and just have it completely shut off. Both BAS and Alive do this, on ther tunes I can't really comment on, but these are the most reputable and popular tuners. |

But if you fitted a blank as well you would not have to let it clean.
As is the soot enters the EGR and cannot get any further becuse as you say it's shut but it will still clog hence why I assume your cleaning it every 6 months. If there is a blank fitted too it cannot get near the EGR in the first place. Unless of course you specifically want to run between the two maps for what ever reason. |

Tig1up is correct, it's not blanked just remap-disabled, is it an easy job to blank? 2023 Defender L663 V8

steve,i guess you don't have a map?
and i guess you don't understand how the egr works? why fit a blank that puts the mil light on and is a right pain to reverse at servicing time? |

I suppose keeping the egr is more useful than having it blanked, 2023 Defender L663 V8

TIG - Sorry, I may have confused some a little bit.
I have a remap yes, with the EGR disabled and a blank fitted on-top. I have no reason to nor will I go back to the OE map, it would be an issue if you did but I personally won't be. Personal choice really. I'm glad to be shot of the thing myself. I am assuming that you like to revert back to the standard map to for servicing am I correct? If so I can understand the phisical blanking issue you mention. ![]() The OP sounds to me like they have a complete EGR off remap without cleaning cycle the same as I have. |

mines still in, extended, warrenty so yes. keep it standard when i need to.
if its shut all the time ,the backside of the valve can't get dirty. the egr in normal operation modulates from closed to open allowing the dirty stuff to stick to the backside of the valve stopping the valve from sealing shut....thats the problem with the egr. |
