Safari snorkel fitting question
I've a safari snorkel to fit and the instructions state to drill the 3 holes at 16mm - and use washers with the M8 studs.

That must be so that it can be manoeuvred into position - but my question is can it be done with a smaller hole ?

For two reasons : if I decide to remove it at a later date 3 16mm holes are a lot harder to conceal than 3 8mm or even 10mm holes. Also I don't have a 16mm drill bit Smile

When I fitted mine the instructions stated to drill the holes out to 16mm. With careful alignment the smallest you can get away with is 12mm, use a stepper/cone drill and start at 8mm gradually taking it out until you are happy with the alignment. I also would not drill the pillar. Over time the pillar bracket deteriorated slightly, I eventually had a stainless bracket made and sealed it to the pillar with Sikaflex, doing this from the start would negate the requirement to drill.

Started as a flat piece of 2mm stainless sheet. Measured, made and polished ensuring inside width and length is same as original to fit in recess on snorkel. Thumbs Up If you go through life with your head in the sand....all people will see is an ar5e!!

That's helpful ! thank you.

A couple of questions on the braket though please ..

Is the sikaflex strong enough ? And how easy would it be to remove ?

Sikaflex is more than up to the job. Would you want to remove it more than a standard bracket which requires several holes to be drilled into your pillar? Nevertheless with the patience, willing and a sharp knife with a long enough blade I would imagine you could get the bracket off if need be. If you go through life with your head in the sand....all people will see is an ar5e!!
