Gents
So I have just fitted 3 x roof bars and an ARB awning..the thing is that the other side of the roof looks a tad naked so I started to think of something to fit up opposite the awning and given my predilection for pioneering tools, I thought I would knock up a tool board to fit on the roof rails on to which I could nail a shovel and an axe/ pick in much the same way a high lift jack is fitted to a Patriot roof rack. My question is will this make the 110 look all expeditionesqe and properly cool or am I peeing in my own boot and potentially going to ruin the old bus. Your opinions are gratefully received Wes Oh woe, oh woe My crusty old landrover, It will not go. |

I'm pretty taken with the Flatdog bars, i'm thinking about using them for my Foxwing.
Looking forward to seeing the pictures! Sandy |

Pioneer tools? If it's an off road toy, you need the bits for work or you are going into remote foreign parts all well and good ....but for an every day vehicle....
IMHO Steve. Owned numerous Land Rover vehicles of all shapes and sizes over the decades. Current Defender: A non tarts hand-bagged Puma 110 XS USW. [Insert something impressive here such as extensive list of previous Land Rovers or examples of your prestigeous and expensive items, trinkets, houses, bikes, vehicles etc] http://forums.lr4x4.com I used to be Miserable ...but now I'm ecstatic. |

Well there's the thing with any pictures, I can get a lump of Ali finished in the same way as the roof bars onto which I can mount some tools ect ...but I doubt it will be cheap, even from my firms metal worker so I wanted to gauge opinion before I pressed the go button

I suppose you could always go for real balance and improved karma by fitting another FoxWing to the other side...
Will not look lopsided and will increase your available outside real estate by as much again when camping... Rog... The GREEN One... MY2016 Urban Truck Build Thread - http://www.defender2.net/forum/topic40548....al[/color] |

Ask yourself the question of how many times you have used the pioneer tools when out in your vehicle in the last couple of years - if the answer is less than 5 then why bother?
Wing tops or rear door tailgate are the best places to fit pioneer tools that will get used. I'm imagining the accident when a slippery pick axe head slips out of your hands as you are trying to fit it back in a mounting above your head |

Do you use the roof rack for anything else other than a mount for your awning?
If you do could you make up anything that would be properly useful for loading/unloading/mounting that you do use regularly? Not a big fan of mounting anything heavy on roofs if it can be avoided, and also mounting pioneering tools seems a bit like providing a potential vandal/thief tools to play with! Chris |

I used to have a wolf bonnet on my 110, with pioneer tool brkts on it (shovel, pick handle, and spare wheel mount) and the pick head bracket on the wing.
Amount of times (apart from taking pictures) I actually used them? zero. amount of times in the last, ooh, 10 years, I've needed said tools when out laning? maybe 1. they live in the back now, out of reach of sticky fingers, and my 110 looks soooo much better with a standard bonnet on it. and I don't look like an extra from the A team..... fool! |
