iron things on range cooker
U know those back cast iron things you put your pans on when using the gas burners on the hob? Anyone tried cleaning them in dish washer with success?

Cheers

Trivets.

That's what they're called, at least where I come from. Try not to use the dishwasher as because they are generally cast iron they will soon rust. There are a few ways such as putting them in a bowl of water with some washing powder such as Ariel, Persil or Aldi own brand preferabaly non-bio. Leave it to soak in for a day or two then give them a scrub with a brush.
There are people who use a bowl full of Coke Cola, cheap or the real thing, this can also get shot of any rust off them if they have been through the dishwasher. Rinse them off thoroughly and dry them with a towl and fully dry them in the oven.
Before you put them away, season them as you would a cast frying pan, wipe them over with a cooking oil, you may need a brush to get into the intracacies of any delicate mouldings then put them inthe oven on a high heat for an hour or two. This will put a protective layer on them to help combat rust and further staining. If they get dirty in the future clean them off with hot water.

Excellent thanks...

I've been meaning to invest in some cheap coke cola and a large tupperware container for a while - need to pull my finger out as they say.

Thumbs Up
