Where the Landy bug bit, it started about 3 years ago when I bought this 1989 TD J19 off ebay.
Click image to enlarge I'd always fancied owning a defender but had always been put off by the cost of them I woke up late one night as I couldn't sleep, so decided to have a look on ebay. Up popped this 90 which was silly cheap and had a galvanised chassis so I bought quick at 3am in the morning. It had been used to pull his daughters horses around to the local shows and but lucky for me he decided he needed a bit more power so bought a Td5 90 to replace this one. It was a bit basic inside and very grubby but very solid with no corrosion to be seen. Just a very bad paint job. I set to work on it and carpeted out the interior and try and make it a bit more homely and more importantly cut out some of the road noise, I owned that 90 for 2 and a half years but decided to sell it as I had started to do a lot more miles and it wasn't great for that. So with a heavy heart I sold it. The day the old 90 sold I picked up this Defender Td5 Click image to enlarge I'm sure some of you will recognise it as (one of) Kens Landys, This was a hell of a lot better for my new longer journeys. It was quite a step up from my old 90. I like fiddling around with my cars fixing and improving them, but got a bit bored with this one, as there wasn't much to do to it. Plus it had a couple of infuriating problems like the new rear door rotting fast from water ingress. Oh and one day I decided that the camp stickers need to come off. In doing that I also did a good job of taking the paint off with the stickers. So a trip to the bodyshop to have the now missing paint replaced. Click image to enlarge This is what it looked like just before I sold it on to its new owner I'd decided that a defender was just costing to much to run. So bought this Click image to enlarge But that didn't last very long and was gone in three months and the search was on for it's replacement. The defender bug had bitten hard by this point so there was only one way I could go. Click image to enlarge So I'm now back and very happy with this one I'll be hold on to this one. The modding has started and I'll update soon with where I am with this one. Admin note: this post has had its images recovered from a money grabbing photo hosting site and reinstated |

To me, the last car you've purchased looks to be the best one. Looking forward to see what you will do with her,....but she looks like a classic to me.

I'm not going to go mad with changes and I think I've nearly got the exterior how I want it. I do want to dynomat and get a full exmoor trim carpet installed over the summer then there's just some tidying up to do.
I don't think I'll be going bucket factory spec as it has the winch fitted and someone has chopped up the front grill. Which was madness as they aren't cheap. It also has a galvanised chassis fitted so really can never go back to how it left the factory. It's got a GKN overdrive fitted which makes the fast cruses a whole lot better plus I'll see 33-35MPG out of it most of the time. I think the GKN helps with that as it knocks 500rpm off 5th. The old black one struggled to get 27MPG. Here's a current pic as how it stands now.
