"Dust to dust, ashes to ashes" it's only an outdated piece of technology after all.

After suffering from years of under investment from various owners, indifferent quality and being well past its shelf life - maybe it was time to move on. It's a fine example of industrial archaeology that delivers fun for a lot of people but the owners appear more interested in producing higher profit 'lifestyle and fashion accessories' - not utilitarian vehicles for folk who might actually get their hands dirty in the countryside.

Looking at that sombre monument and the words carved with precision into the stonework - Unaware the Defender qualifies as having made the supreme sacrifice?

Sadly those vehicles that do stand around doing not a lot and with low mileages, often seen to deteriorate and become unreliable. Bearings, seals and engine components that are designed to reach working temperatures and move - oils and coolants designed to be pumped around a system. Chassis that benefits from airflow and not sitting in a bath of condensation - there are few mechanical vehicles or devices that benefit from being static museum pieces. Sometimes a low mileage vehicle isn't actually that good an investment.

I second that. All cars seem to work better, run smoother and have less problems if they are used regularly
