Tomb Raider 110 Side Steps
Evening all,

I'm after some advice on side steps/runners.

The females on my family have trouble climbing into my 110, and will definitely have trouble once my HD front springs are on. So I'm looking to fit some sort of step to aid getting in.

I do use my truck off road, so the normal LR side steps are out of the question as their mounts don't look too strong so won't offer much protection, and also hang too low reducing clearance.

I have thought about rock sliders with the tree bars, as I had these fitted to my 90 and they put up with the off road abuse, but the 110 won't be driven into such extreme places to need really HD protection... And the tree slider can also be in the way of getting in if you can't get your leg up high enough to use it as a step (plus get trousers dirty when sliding out). Plus, I'm not sure on the aesthetics when fitted to my truck, I prefer their 'look' when combined with wider tyres (OCD, I know).

So, I've been looking closer at the 'Tomb Raider' style of side step.

Does anyone have these steps fitted?

How do you rate them?

How strong are they? Do you think they'd strug off normal off road clouts (not talking of sliding the truck over rocks, just mud banks etc) to protect the sills?

Cheers!

My 110 has always had them (not Genuine I think) and they have stood up to what I have asked. Mine were plastic coated though, which I managed to lose large chunks out of, and what was left was a bu66er to get off so that I could paint them, so I would avoid that finish. Some fit with front mud flaps and some including Genuine TR do not.

(Mine similar to these http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/LAND-ROVER-DEFEN...0551159544, 110 version obviously, the brackets are the same at least.)

My pal has them on his 90, now I don't know if they are fitted incorrectly but I find them next to useless for standing on! Can't get my foot on them enough My 109 thread

I find them next to useless as a step myself but the rest of my family manage....many falling on the ground incidents ensued when I took them off to paint them! Laughing

As in next to useless, CatherineF?

An interesting point there, I did wonder. I imagine they'd be ok if you but your foot on lengthways, but a bit awkward to do? Pete

It is more the fact that they are only 4" below the door openning (so big step then a little step) that means I find them next to useless, rather than the width of the step itself. I find it makes getting in harder if I step on it than if I step over it. It probably comes down to length of leg and size of feet. I have HD springs and the rest of my family deffo prefer them on to off.

I certainly don't need them nor would fit on them with size 13s, but hopefully my lass would find them handy being little if the rest of your family does Kipper! Laughing Pete

It's actually made it more difficult for my mother to get in Laughing oh well, she'll have to make do with a collapsible plastic step now! At least it'll protect the sills a bit and give a small degree of side impact protection...

No not next to useless but they fit very close to the body at the front and you can't get your whole foot on them. 2015 Audi Q3 Quattro S Line Plus 184 TDI Stronic
