I use husky I find it better power for logging. Generally huskys power tops stilh however stilhs chain speed is better, foresters tend to use husky tree surgeons use stilh. A good mid range saw is echo my top Handel is echo and would buy every time over the top brands as there getting to expensive my husky 545 cost somewhere around £600 that's a lot of trees to cut to cover it!
I also have a Chinese husky copy. It's great for £70 been going 12 months now so will have to see how it lasts but if it breaks its made its money. |

Hello Shaggydog
Here's mine a Stihl MS461, I burnt out a lower quality chainsaw before ending up here, four years of winter logging, 3 replacement chains, 1 new spark plug and normal cleaning & servicing. Starts and runs really well, does rev freely to a high level, so when cutting with a good chain makes light work of most tasks. Feels well made, although I did a DIY mod on the lift off orange cover as it was too loose for me. Have also used a Husqvarna (over one long day) and was also impressed, but no long term experience to go on. SKIP https://www.defender2.net/forum/topic83242.html |

Just thought I'd update this for anyone who was interested in the outcome.
In the end I went for the Husqvarna 435 Chainsaw and have been very very impressed with it. Best starting Chainsaw I have ever been around, very light and well balanced and surprisingly easy on fuel. Highly recommend it for anyone who needs one for infrequent but heavy use. Running Restoration Thread http://www.defender2.net/forum/post323197.html#323197 Self confessed mileage hunter |
