Means it has been an insurance write-off and is repairable (or has been repaired) to put back on the road.

Category C is a car that was in an accident/vandalised and is deemed uneconomical to fix as the repair will cost more than the car is worth. These can subsequently be bought back by the owner and repaired if they're so inclined. Peter

I have one now, picked up a 2004 SW, 84k miles, needed some tlc. Paid 8900, going well so far, serviced it now on with the cosmetic stuff and probabally a trip to rustmaster.
A cat c is an insurance write off, it goes from a to d i think, a being, melt it, b is break for parts only, c is heavy damage beyond normal repair and d usually falls into stolen recovered or light damage that would be beyond economical repair. |

You're right about Cat's A & B, but Cat C is uneconomical to repair (based on main dealer parts & labour), Cat D is uneconomical to repair, based on the same main dealer parts & labour, but also including all other costs - vehicle collection after collision, any car hire costs (the owner + other drivers, if insurance co had to pay), + any other costs you can think of that the insurer was stung for.
ie D is the lowest and not generally anything to be scared off as-such. Just make sureany repair has been done correctly, of course. Mark 2011 110 XS DC Stornoway Grey |

does effect the resale value quite badly as well so need to pay 30-40% less than a normal motor.
