Advice on buying a Porsche 944
Is there anybody on here that knows a thing or two about Porsche 944

Been offered a 1987 944s with 110k miles on it in Guards red / pink, for humble money. From what i have read engine, electrics etc are fairly bulletproof. Done usual google searches, buying guides etc.

Is there any gremlins anyone has had or personal experiences that would persuade me to buy or not to buy

For £1250 its hardly dangerous money for a Porsche but don't want to spend £££s on it either, might just do a light restoration and keep as a weekend classic or go down track car route.

Any advice as always will be much appreciated Thumbs Up

Will hopefully get a pic of it sometime over Holiday season

Had 3 944s...All Red!
superb car to look at..superb to drive..
but they can hide a multitude of faults..

Also....don't expect Defender prices for spares!!

Suspect areas are:-

Cill corrosion.( seam below door)
front to rear fuel line corrosion..( nightmare to replace)
Power steering..rack and pump
Front wishbone bush assemblies
Digital clock on dashboard
Crack in dashboard top if left in sun
Tailgate seals leak into boot

just a few regulars Ive come across...there are plenty more

Clemmo Make today a little better than yesterday but not so good as tomorrow....
Defender 90 HT............Pangea Green
BMW X3 Msport............Carbon Black
Mini Electric................Grey. (wow!)
MGB Roadster……..........Vermillion
Honda Benly CD200....Maroon ------------- Chausson 98.........7.5m of fun

If you are a "typical" Defender owner..then yes!

by that I mean if you are practical and happy to take on tasks.
They are well built and relatively mechanically straight forward.

By choice I would go back to my last which was a 2,7.

The 2.5 is an Audi sourced engine...the 2.7 is Porsche developed.

Great fun at weekends, and very cheap to insure as a "Classic"
I kept my last one 9 years..and sold it for almost what I paid.

Do I miss it..yes?..But love my current Z4 too!..( red of course!)

Yep i am typical Defender owner not afraid to lift a spanner and get hands dirty.

To be honest at the sort of money i am talking, if it puts a smile on my face for a month or two i should get my money back......as long as there is no headaches Shocked

Thanks for the advice Thumbs Up
