Only if you live in the Northern regions looking at the map on Landywatch.....
What are you basing your supposition on? Most of the Defenders stolen do not have a decent tracker fitted. FFS why do people not bother spending out on such an item when the theft of the Defender is so prolific and well publicised? I also wonder how many of the owners think "If Only?".....After the horse has long bolted..... If you go through life with your head in the sand....all people will see is an ar5e!! Treat every day as if it is your last....one day you will be right!! |

It's a good point, hence why I only give the the valley I live in , not the exact location. Lots of defenders to choose from round here to steal. 2001 Td5 CSW (weekend and snow mobile) Plenty of lights, M/T tyres EGR delete, roofrack, swing away wheel carrier, snorkel.

Had Trackers in the past, which one are people choosing at the moment?
Quite happy to receive recommendations on PM. |

Common sense lol! You don't have to be a rocket scientist to work out if you have a number plate and location makes the job for thieves targeting vehicles a lot easier. Any preventive measures is better than nothing in my opinion. I take your point with regards to Trackers but how many people get their land rovers back in the same condition prior to it being stolen? Trackers are the very last port of call, only good once the vehicle has actually been stolen, unless you put some visible notice on your vehicle saying the vehicle is fitted with one. Who wants their vehicle stolen in the first place? Many trackers can be jammed, so they're not 100% guaranteed to get a vehicle back to it's owner. |

Dont ever see the point in blanking number plates (agree with only a rough location though)
Ive been after a plate thats assigned to a car and there is no easy way to trace its whereabouts or the contact details. If you know a way though please pm me as I want to buy it As above dont rely on a tracker as your only means of security as they can be overcome now aswell. Seems sadly if they want them they'll get them all you can do is hope to slow them down or hurt them enough that they pick another. Defender puma dormobile camper |

It's idiotic putting down your location, number plates are best avoided as a matter of course anyway.
Everyone knows I live near Minehead anyway. |

The risk here is considerably less than at your side of the channel, but I use some security measures, but also had a quick check on this forum's map to see if I put my right coordinates. Yes, all is fine, you will find the SVX on the map exactly on top of the jet d'eau (the Geneva fountain) right in the middle of the lake here. Will be a challenge for a thief to get to it without wetting himself and being thrown 140 meter in the air first. You never actually own a Defender. You merely look after it for the next generation.

Martin swiftly removed the ge-tagging of iOS uploaded photos too which was a very good move.
I keep this feature turned off anyway for photos but nice to know the site is fail safe anyway. Last edited by custom90 on 18th Dec 2014 5:21pm. Edited 1 time in total |
