Alaska Off-Road warriors
A work colleague from across the pond said that there's a off-road (or 4-wheelin' as they seem to call it) show on their TV at the moment, called "Alaska Off-Road Warriors", which is about a bunch of 4x4ers of different makes going across Alaska, coast to coast in a 'race'.

I wasn't able to watch the direct feed, presumably because I'm not based in the states (http://www.history.com/shows/alaska-off-road-warriors), but thankfully there is a YouTube feed with the first three episodes on so far, at:

https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCqNNpU8hVzhU4Lgl18Ieypw

Its a bit of a mix of Ice Road truckers vs the Red Neck Duck Hunters - but by episode 3 I was quite enjoying it (well until the end of that episode anyway.. I won't spoil it for you).

There is a 300 Tdi 90 in the event - although there are some slight oddnesses in that after they bust the propshaft - the underbody shot of the vehicle showed a leaf sprung rear axle... We also don't ask where they are getting their fuel from, given that one of the vehicles (1942 Jeep fitted with a 350ci v8 ) must be pretty thirsty, and there's not a Jerry can in sight!

Still, if you want something to watch while writing Christmas cards - you could do worse than give it a go.

I think I've seen some of those characters practising at my local pay & play site Embarassed

I really wanted to enjoy this it has all the elements but the way they film and the overly aggressive/in your face format makes it hard watching.

Nevertheless a good find Thumbs Up

Crikey, red-neck American hillbillies "do" off-roading! If one of them had a brain cell he'd be dangerous!

Is it meant to be a parody?

It reminds me a little of a film called "Idiocracy", except these guys are more stupid!

I am embarrassed to be watching this, but at the same time strangely compelled to keep watching. How confusing!

I agree it's a great film, but it is a terrifying and plausible prediction of the future now that there are so many safeguards to stop very stupid people removing themselves from the gene pool in entertaining ways.

I personally subscribe to the school of thought that says the zombie apocalypse will happen*, but zombies are not the dead rising, they're the ultimate evolution of stupid.

* In fact it has started already.

This is now on the History channel, on Thursday nights at 10 pm. What can I say, other than I agree with all the above comments.

It's true "reality TV" (meaning it's a total crock). Jason, driver of "Rover 1" in the show was posting often on the local american defender site while the show aired over here this winter. He pointed out many times his frustrations with the producers, editing everything to make it look so un-like how it really was. Apparently the best footage was left on the cutting room floor in favour of "drama".

He pointed out that some of the best experiences of the whole trip were spent around the camp fire in the evenings with his friends out in the wilderness. Now THAT sounds like reality to me.
