That's odd! Mine (td5) for the first time this morning when I turned the ignition to let the glow plugs warm, the Rev counter went up to 50 for a second then went back down Confused After that it was fine and ran fine, but I've never had anything like that happen before.

I have had this before. Nothing has happened 2,000 miles later, nor has it repeated this. Rolling Eyes 2001 Td5 CSW (weekend and snow mobile) Plenty of lights, M/T tyres EGR delete, roofrack, swing away wheel carrier, snorkel.

Thank you, thank you...
Firstly, a big thank you to everyone who chipped in, especially relatively swiftly, with suggestions, remedies and other hints and tips in response to my problems yesterday, THANK YOU... Bow down

I have now worked out how to check the Trouble Codes on my UltraGuage (first time for everything!)... Embarassed

The only Trouble Code showing up is U0001 - which, checking historic posts, appears to be some kind of comms error, or even, according to @Lorryman100 may be something to do with the OBDII connector or possibly the UltraGuage itself?

There are no other Trouble Codes, or Pending Codes... Very Happy

Mamba is currently running sweetly, having apparently sorted the issue all by itself, so I will try and check the suggestions everyone has kindly contributed at the weekend (a good excuse to avoid the festive shopping trip!)... Whistle

Again, thank you everyone, what a brilliant, knowledgeable and helpful community this really is... Thumbs Up

Just fit an extra one Caterham. You're going to anyway. It has six main earths feeding to three different earth points, the primary one being the 'case' of the ECU itself. You go figure where to connect it and how to find it. It should be easy to spot. If you can't please leave well alone!

Did you go through 'due process' for disconnecting the battery or just 'crack on' and did it?

With regards to your ultragauge (if it is an ultragauge) it has an internal fuse in the OBD connector that cannot be replaced apparently.

Thud Thud Makes no difference you're still isolating the battery from the vehicle. Have a look in the manual about switching ignition to position 2 turning off then disconnecting within 15 seconds. Irrespective of what they may be for 'processes' are there for a reason usually. Did your alarm sound? If not you may have an issue with it that needs extensive investigation?
Christmas Tree lights after messing with the battery as you did doesn't seem that surprising to me, you should have removed the positive as well to prevent 'flashing' the electronics each time you reconnected the negative, which I would wager would have been numerous times.

Confused

I took the earth off more than once last night no alarm....all 'seems' fine.

just gone outside expecting to have to press the down button on the ultragauge after having a look through the instructions (thank you Mal) and even that is now working. not been for a drive so can't say for sure if the dash is going to light and dance when I go for a drive but starting the engine up deemed fine???

??? and a few more ????

- Mal if I'm not mistaken you're deliberately trying to worry me with procedures right?

Thumbs Up

If I don't follow the procedure my alarm sounds! I also have the added bonus of my tracker company phoning me at the same time if I forget to notify them first! Embarassed Doesn't yours? Whistle If you go through life with your head in the sand....all people will see is an ar5e!!

....... Neutral

that'll be a

NO and NO. Sad

something else to check out - thanks. - as in your alarm makes your horns sound or you have the battery backed siren?

upon reflection I wonder if the lead to the ultragauge was slightly squeezed in between some trim/carpet causing interference? seems very strange that it started after the battery disconnect tho? will monitor?

Not everyone's Defender has a BBUS.
Mine reacts the same as Veno's.

I have a Skytag too, supposed to email / text when power cut I.e. Battery disconnected.
Did that last week when I took the battery out.
No text or email at all. Confused
