Nothing too bad about my current [Standard] ICE set up ... but looking to improve the sound quality a tad without fitting bigger speakers, sub, etc,etc.. So ....
Are there 10 cm speakers out there that will give a much improved sound quality over the standard fit, But still using the LR radio? Could do with a bit more bass, and a less high tinny'ish sound. Are there better tweeters to fit top of dash, or is it better to just disconnect those? [They sound worse of all!] I know Steve loves his Kenwoods, and many others rate Focals ![]() |

In my opinion, the best 'simple' upgrade is a powered sub fitted to the rear of the cubby box.
I know it's not as easy as simply changing the existing speakers (and you said without fitting a sub) but 'bang for buck' it'll give you the most improvement |

I wanted to do the same without too much faff.
I did however end up with one of these (Kenwood KSC-SW11) mounted on the back of the cubby box (http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/KENWOOD-KSC-SW11...0779678168) I also replaced my rear speakers with some Focal PC100s. Still haven't done the fronts as sound now is pretty good. When I get round to it they will be replaced with Focal KRS100s. It was the sub that made all the difference and I only did the rears as one of them was playing up. 2008 Defender 110 XS SW - M57N2 / 6HP28X |

Question is, Kenwood or Alpine sub? Kenwood is about £35 cheaper - it's a bit less than your link here: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Kenwood-KSC-SW11-U...B00BO8O9XQ

I've got no experience of the Alpine sub. The kenwood one was recommended from another forum user and I've been really impressed with it. 2008 Defender 110 XS SW - M57N2 / 6HP28X

There have been lots of recommendations of the Alpine too, the Kenwood appears to have an inbuilt amp though, so a neater install. Hmmmmm

Oooo and Merry Christmas to you too!
![]() ![]() As others have mentioned a sub even a small active one will give you more improvement over just a speaker change. The speaker change is a close runner up though, from changing tweeers all you'll get is better high tones and clarity. |

Pioneer make active sub's too. This one is an interesting new technology. http://www.carsoundsandsecurity.co.uk/store/ts-wh500a/ http://defender90xs.blogspot.co.uk/ |

To answer the OP's question, i should think any decent 4" speakers from a quality manufacturer would do the job perfectly. Just a question of budget - buy the best you can afford.

We definitely are not going sub route .. It's speaker upgrade only... Already got far too many 'additional' wiring looms
![]() So more recommendations please guys ....... Guns and Landrovers .... anything else is irrelevant. |
