Squealing td5 alternator , can you just change the bearing ?
Much as title rally there is a rather annoying squealing from the alternator pulley until the the engines all warmed up.
Can I replace just the bearing/ pulley or is a whole new and rather expensive unit I need ,

Thanks all

England
normally if its squealing its the spring part the tensioner pulley gone , sometimes if you look down (NOT RUNNING )inline with belt you can see the tensioner pulley is out of line with the back of the belt

some people replace just the pulley (normally waste of time ), but its the nylon bearing in the spring part that allows the pulley to run out of line on the belt , better to buy a whole tensioner assembly (£25-£60ish )

alternator bearing don't normally squeal , bearings normally a rumble noise when going
,
quite often you have to de-solder some of the wiring joints for regulator and diode pack inside to strip down to remove bearings inside the alternator , make it not worth bothering most of the time

A little lube sprayed into the alternator pulley shut it up for the time being but tensioner is close enough it may well have got a dose.

Thanks for advice. Sounds like its worth changing the tensioner first before anything else and leaving the alt well alone

Just need the rain to go away before anything else

If the belt has been running out of line , you would normally replace belt as well Thumbs Up
