Jonno
Just had exactly the same just 4 years old, 16000 miles and seal has started leaking. Luckily, has extended warranty and has been replaced under warranty. Tony |

Lol I hope that doesn't mean the design life is under 20k miles!
Mines not under warranty, so hoping it will be quite cheap to fix although I dare say a total pain to do. Jonno |

Check the breather isn't blocked, cheapest option number 1.
Replace the diff oil seal option number 2. If the above still fail a new flange and diff seal. On mine until recently the breather never was blocked but leaked, so the seal was changed. It then still leaked....... I then had the seal AND flange replaced as per dealer recommendation and the leak is completely cured. I'm guessing the flange was worn so even with a new seal its still leak. |

Mine started about 28k I think, after I did a heavy ish recovery.
Have you just been using it normally? If you have might be worth mentioning to LR the exceptionally low mileage for an issue to arise. |

Done around 450 miles in 2 days in my 51' Td5 county on the way back from a camping holiday .... The leaks appear to have worsened.... Gonna park up all use the Mercedes all next week and see if they slow down. I wish it was only my rear diff that leaked abit! 2001 Td5 CSW (weekend and snow mobile) Plenty of lights, M/T tyres EGR delete, roofrack, swing away wheel carrier, snorkel.

Not had time to look into this but apart from the leak that's started around the input shaft it also seems to have started leaking around one of the bolts holding it together... This is making me think it's more likely to be the breather problem as mentioned before on this thread. I presume the back diff is vented to one of the collection of breather pipes under the bonnet?
If so the bonnet end openings are clear, not sure if they block where they go into the diff. Will have to investigate further. Jonno |

My rear diff seal went at about 8K due to blocked breather.
Rear breathers normally vent at the back somewhere not under the bonnet unless extended. Very easy to find the vent position, follow the pipe from the top of the axle, normally about centre on one side, and you will find the end position. Then remove the pipe and check for a blockage somewhere along it's length. Will try and stick a pic up in the next day or so, if it stops raining. Just hoping unblocking the breather stops the leak and it was just excess pressure forcing the oil through.

That is a bad one, much worse than what I had.
If it was done at main dealer I expect you'll be heading back. |

Yep, main dealer. I have emailed them.
I have already had issues with the dealer and I am far from impressed. |
