New Turbo - Warranty Company Wont Pay
Well the engine started to squeal like a pig under load and above 2,000RPM, got it to local specialist, they have diagnosed Turbo, they have spotted debris in the unit, pretty much open/shut case. However warranty company after several days of toing and froing want the garage to send the unit to a turbo specialist for full investigation, gut feeling they aint gunna pay up

Why would they not pay? Cant see a reason other than intentional damage/neglect Andy

Is it not just the turbo gasket/flange problem?

most after market warrantys are worded "mechanical breakdown cover " if you drove it to the garage you haven't broken down and that's how they get out of it

I have dealt with hundreds of claims and they always try it on

the biggest friend of the warrentry company is the owner of the car as they normally say the wrong thing , they ring the warrentry company and say I think I have a problem and ask what to do , warrentry company say ok take it to your garage and let them let us know whats wrong , BIG MISTAKE you have just let them know it hasn't broken down !

the battles ive had with owners telling them never speak to the company

If they found debris in the turbo, was it from the turbo or elsewhere in the engine? If a turbo goes it can be because of other causes.

To make matters worse, I am supposed to get £35 per day towards a hire car, however the crafty b*****ds say that they wont pay that unless they accept the claim, they wont accept the claim until the turbo specialists have given them the final report. I tried to argue that they are causing the delay because they dont believe the garage, but still wont allow a hire car.

The only good thing is that I managed to hire a 14 plate 110 from Thrifty, for only £132 for 4 days, VERY peachy, so much nicer than the Puma 90. Jumped ship to reliability - Mitsubishi L200

How long has it been fitted, and how many miles has the new turbo done. Am I to understand it`s the new turbo that has failed.
What was the original cause of first turbo failure. Service history and vehicle use, ect.

Did the garage who replaced the turbo change the oil and filter, if nessary replace the turbo oil pipes, drop down the sump to inspect the oil pump pick up gauze.

Did they clean out the induction system / inspect it.

Do you know what kind of debris were found and where. These are the questions I would ask, as the puma engine is pretty good to it`s turbo`s. It`s not had any performance up grades has it ? Excuse the spelling I`am better with spanners and wires.

IS this an after sales warranty company? like for when the main LR warranty has expired?

Usually seem a waste of time IMO.

I know it's no help whatsoever and I am sorry for your plight and sincerely hope you reach a resolution to your situation, nevertheless the 'worth' of extended warranty has been well debated......

This has been covered more than once before....The general opinion of the worth of extended warranty was a resounding NO!

Hi Muddy,

I have a problem with my newly purchased Puma-90 but I took one look at the RAC Warranty clauses and realised that it was a futile exercise.

The fact that my Landy needs a high degree of investigation work first to help establish the actual problem is not covered in the policy. It's a whole load of b.....k...s

I will let you fill in the blanks above Very Happy - Andrew -

I had a warranty direct warranty on my D3.
Worth the money?? Certainly. It paid out on a claim within a couple of weeks of taking it out. And it's transferable to the new owner. Even covers wear and tear and I had he betterment clause in so it paid the full amount rather than a % because of it's age. 110 D250 SE HT

Hi when I bought my puma from a 4x4 dealer it came with a three month warranty from a warranty company not the dealers , Within a couple of days it started with a water leak so I took it to a local 4x4 specialist who had to pressure test the water system to find the leak and it turned out to be water pump . The warranty company would pay for the pump and fitting but not for a genuine part or investigation work to find the leak . needless to say genuine item was fitted and I footed the bill , In my opinion warranties arnt worth paper there wrote on . really hope you get it sorted and not end up having to buy a new turbo and investigation work that they requested . Good luck ..
cheers daz ..
