So the dealer has found a drain on the battery. It amounts to 262 milliamperes. Is that enough to discharge a battery enough over a few days to stop it cranking over the engine?

That is quite a resistive value you have, nearly 46 ohms draining your battery. If my calculations are correct and you have a 65 ampere hour battery it would take approximately 10 days to completely flatten it. How long it would take before it wouldn't crank or you have no dash lights when ignition is switched on I have absolutely no idea but it would be significantly less than the 10 days mentioned previously so 'a few days' I would say yes! Sorry I cannot be more precise. Connecting an ammeter in series or using a clamp meter on your battery feed whilst pulling your fuses/relays may give you a good pointer where the drain is coming from.

Of interest are my interior led festoon bulbs which appear to glow even when they are supposed to be off.

No they shouldn't glow !

I know I thougbt that. Maybe some humble pie is in order if it works out they have been the cause! My fault, buy cheap, buy twice!

So it was down to some dodgy LED interior bulbs in the end then? Defender puma dormobile camper

Are these the lights switched from the door switches and the on/off courtesy switch in the headlining? If so they shouldn't be getting any supply and you may have a short circuit in one of them perhaps? If you go through life with your head in the sand....all people will see is an ar5e!!

Yes they were fitted to replace the OE festoon bulbs. I have removed them both and I will keep an eye on it for a few days to see what happens.

As K9F says they (the LEds) can't operate unless they are getting some power i.e. door switch shorting etc has any one checked across the bulb connections with a meter to see if there is a short?

I put a tester across the terminals of the interior lights and there is a current. Oddly there is non when in the off position. There is current in the on position as you would expect, but there is also current when the switch is in the door position. Ideas?

Sorry to maybe state the obvious , but when you tested the lights for getting current did you have the door shut and wait for light delay before checking for current when switch in door position
also how much current if it enough to only light a led dim then it could be water in a relay , switch , control box , etc etc I take it it not enough to light a standard bulb |

Yes I waited till they had gone off, but good point. Not sure of the voltage, I was only using a basic go, no go tester. I will check to see if there is enough to power a standard festoon bulb.

Not the same problem but just as a example , my rear led worklight can be on with reverse lights , off , or on alone with a small flashing red led indicator inside .
moved defender parked and noticed red led flashing oddly , ign off, out of reverse etc went round back worklight flashing dimly , had a quick lookat wiring behind speaker panel and water had run down a wire in to the relay ( which was mount terminals up ) and was shorting enough through the water to make the leds light dimly , the water would not have passed enough current for a normal bulb to light up changed relay moved it all fine sometimes leds working on such low current is not such a good thing |
