South Africa 2009 Defender 110 Puma 2.4 CSW Stornoway Grey
12,000 mile / 20,000 km service
It's that time when we need to book our 2009 Puma in for it's first service. In South Africa, this can cost up to R6,000 (GBP500 plus) so we want to split work between local dealership and good independant mechanic. We need to know what work must be done by dealership in order not to invalidate warranty. We think we can instruct them to just do oil and filter changes? Is this correct? And will they stamp book afterwards? Any information really appreciated. Also any PDFs on what is recommended at each service interval would also help.
Kind regards Mr Bond.
PS. Following on from postings re. 'loss of power' last year, new intercooler (modified by Land Rover for Puma) working great with no further power issues. Only problem has been turbo hoses blowing off as the clamps aren't strong enough!

You're probably better off sticking to your LR dealer, as they will have access to the latest ECU updates, service bulletins and any warranty issues etc. I'm not sure if you would save that much anyway and you could leave yourself exposed to divided responsibity issues should you have any subsequent problems, apart from having to drop off your vehicle to two different locations with the associated hassle and cost.

donīt know if it is worth, but you can supply some spares like oil and filters. My only local dealer charges twice the cost if I import them myself, including post. Puma 110" SW

thank you Cannonball, good point - only 80'000km more or another 2 years before we are free from the clutches of Land Rover Dealerships!

thank you MK, Chile sounds just like South Africa - good to have your team staying in our local town for the football world cup - the whole town was supporting them!! we saw them play Honduras, and win!

I use (and will use) a dealer for the first three years, then go to a mechanic (LR Indi friend) for the next few or myself.

Anyway, this is what you need from my gallery:

Print it off - get your garage to follow it (there is a km one somewhere) tick it, sign it and give it to you for your records. Then get them to sign the book (ideally stamp aswell...both) job done.

Its in accordance then. Remember to confirm the correct oil specs are used. Mike
