Main Dealer servicing
When my 110 CSW has it's 1st service next month I want to supply my own oil (from Opie). Has anyone else done this and if so, what oil did they use and what credit did the dealer give for non supply of oil?

Sorry to jump on your thread - I've just bought a new Puma and it hasn't come with a service book. The dealer says that all service history is now stored online through the dealer network ( which I assumed was the case anyway) and Land Rover don't supply service books any more - is this true or am I being spun a yarn?

Why are you supplying your own oil??

to save money, or do you know more about the engine than the people who made it?

Just looking at the invoice for my 1st service, the main dealer used (or invoiced me!) Shell Helix Plus 5w/30 oil. Invoice does not detail the quantity but the cost was £68.18 before VAT.

They also charged £9.99 before VAT for disposal of the old oil.

Well oil is expensive and you have to dispose of old oil responsibly i.e. not chucking it down the drain but on the whole main dealers are really expensive as they have huge premises to pay for.
Just had mine serviced by indie garage that I have used for years 84000 mile service £273.00 incl VAT

Servicing is a bit more but on paid for repairs you do get some warranty, that's worth it in my book.
The Shell Helix seems to be good, was on castrol before, seems smooth now.

To save money! Opie probably supply the same oil for 50% less than charged for by the Dealer. I'm asking which oil as there are 5 or 6 which all conform to the same (Ford) standard.

It's interesting they charge for the disposal of old oil....usually if you have more than about 400 litres you can sell it to the oil reclamation companies....

By supplying and disposing (correctly) of the oil and consumables for my 24k service I have saved £120. It's a no brainier unless you have more of it than sense.
