Has anyone fitted aftermarket side/rear steps to a 2010 Defender? I started with the rear step (Britpart), it came with two hex/octagonal clinch-nuts that side into a prepunched hex/octagonal hole on the chassis. I guess when the bolt is tightened the rear (blind) portion compresses to fix the nutsert into place? All well and good, one of these after tightening started spinning in the punched chassis hole! This will require grinding/drilling out and replacing, do these type of blind nutserts require a tool to fit, as rotating the bolt to compress the fixing doesn't work?
I've dry fitted the rear and side steps and when they are stowed vertical seem to fowl the door when opening or closing? Ha anyone experienced this? |

Are you sure - it sounds a little like the ones used on the door pillars (same as in a IT rack) push in they clip in place as a square, bolt up and it stops the clips pushing in the come out. Mike

Cheers, found a post on a 4x4 forum with illustrations that used a longer bolt, a piece of tube (I used some washers) and a nut. Placed the nut onto the bolt, then the washers. Inserted bolt into nutsert into chassis hole, tightened nut with a spanner whilst making sure the bolt remained still - worked like a charm. Thanks for advice.

Sounds just like the rivnuts as stated - if you buy genuine light guards you get the tool (just as described) if you go online to LR's manuals you will see how it works. Glad its sorted Mike |
