If you are able to service and use genuine parts ... Why not ? Keep the receipt for the oil and filters
Careful if you decide to tackle the axles, xfr box and gearboxes though |

Why not contact Walter at LRExtreme in Pta East? Way better indie than Wayne. Btw...I service my Puma myself. Extremely easy and you know that is was done right. There are so many tips on servicing the Puma that you really can not go wrong. |

I'm a pretty hopeless mechanic and it's very doable DIY.
Including diffs, trans box, gbox, engine, filters etc, There's good guides on here Cheers, David Land Rovers of all shapes S3 onwards… Daily is a 110 V8. |

I see the sump plug of the engine needs replacing. What about the plugs for the rest?

the engine sump plug has a parallel thread and rubber seal and that is why it is recommended to be replaced, the axles are reusable and tapered threads, the gear box and transfer box are also reused DEFENDER 90 TDCI XS,

So after digging around I made the following lists from various sources (This site; Topix; SA 4x4 forums).
Which oil in each category would be preferred or rated best? Engine Oil: 5W/30 – WSS–M2C913–B WSS–M2C913–C Castrol Magnatec 5W-30 A1 Fully Synthetic Puma 6 Speed Gearbox (MT82) : 2.2l (Service fill); 2.4l (Dry fill) Castrol BOT 130M (SAE75W-90. API GL4) Castrol Syntrans Multivehicle 75W-90 Fully Synthetic MTF Castrol BOT402 MTF 94 ATF Dexron D2 or D3 NB!! Do not fill the Gearbox until the oil flow out of the Filler hole. The filer hole is NOT at the full mark as we used to on ie the R380. (Land Rover had to send the Dealers a Service Bullitin (SSM34407) to highlight this) Transfer Case: 2.3litres Castrol Syntrax 75W–90 Texaco Multigear 75W–90R API GL4 or GL5 MIL-L-2105 or MIL-L-2105B Fuchs Titan Race SYN 5 75W-90 Fully Synthetic Gear Oil Front and Rear Diffs: Both is 1.6litres Castrol EPX 80W–90 Texaco Geartex EP85W–90 |

That's what I would do...
Seconded... Mine's due now (well, last month actually). However it's only done 8000 easy miles since the last (dealer) service. As I won't be using her much in the next 3 months, I'll be leaving it just now, and getting it done in Spring before still doing any major miles. I did an interim service myself last year. Warranty's expired now, so I will be doing some myself, and some by the local Indie... Defender "Puma" 2.4 110 County Utility (possibly the last of the 2.4's) |
