That hill is well known for use by local lads for a 4x4 jolly. It has massive amounts of ruts on it (as well as huge scars caused by the volume of walkers). It is highly unlikely that any of the ruts being shown in the article were caused by the trucks in the photo shoot as there is no way on earth they would have got to the summit in standard trucks unless it had been bone dry (which it has been all summer long). This is just a bit of propaganda from the antis and to be fair to them, LR have offered excellent ammunition by choosing one of the most sensitive areas in the UK to do their photo shoot.
If you head over to Google Earth you will see how badly damaged the hillside is. |

I think this YouTube video tells the story. If the link doesn't work it's easy enough to find...

I was in Snowdonia in October and did Moel Eilio on foot, coming down the damaged section noted.
It's funny seeing this thread as I concluded that the damage must have been done by a Unimog at the time as some sections were so steep and boggy a Defender was likely to struggle and the tyre to tyre widths seemed huge. How wrong!! I also tried to work out why the tracks were there and just concluded it was fencing / stone wall works right to the summit. Wrong!!! The photos don't show the full extent of the damage to the summit but some sections were very trashed and there were multiple tracks including JCB 3CX type tracks. There's is a nice green lane at the bottom of this mess with a nice steep hill climb but the entire length to the quarry is TRO'd and there are signs everywhere telling you no off road driving or the National park will you! Excellent find - from the top I counted: a tracked argo type vehicle a Discovery a 90 a 110 a blue tractor a red quad gave up when it came to the car park. Clearly it's an expensive business taking a few photos - could this really have been anyone other than lr footing the bill? The irony is that it is not a bridleway so the cyclist should not have been riding there at all!

unless thay also had the land owners permission.
Maybe they were runners for the film crew. Did they drive it up on the Hd rims and swap them over for the shoot as they didn't want to damage them? |

Hi, I have just joined and having a read through here, I believe that the photos might be for the last of the defenders, a special edition model a dealer told me they might be about £55-60k

Only £55k to £60k each .... that's remarkably cheap to own one of the final production models of an iconic vehicle.
Come to think of it I'll have two! A 'His' and 'Hers' version to park in front of the ex-Council house in Doncaster would look splendid. On the other hand maybe I should speculate and buy half a dozen in unregistered condition and make an obscene profit margin in a few years? Must have a word with my boss as to this years bonus at work as we are ahead of target on both sales and profit margins. |

If that's the case then there has to be something special going on in the interior, engine or drivetrain to end up at that cost. To me it seems quite early to be talking about the final edition version, but maybe lead times are that long. Now a more balanced report - http://www.newsnorthwales.co.uk/news/14095...mess-.aspx “The area used by Land Rover is not a Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI). “The land owners were on site throughout to oversee the shoot and advised that the track was in constant use to repair areas of the National Park and that any attempt to restore any damage would be unproductive at this time due to other traffic. “Land Rover has reiterated to the land owners that if any work is required to return the land to its original state, then we will conduct repairs. “They have told us that there is no requirement for any further action.” |
