The EGR valve doesn't need any setting up, but there may be stored DTCs even without the MIL illuminated. Clearing the DTCs is not essential but would need a device of some kind.

Nick, I have one that I have spare if you need one. (Cheaper model)
And as Blackwolf mentions, he's hit the nail on the head there. If your EGR is making noises that weren't through normal running it's likely on its way out, it will flag the MIL eventually if not replaced. Alternatively you could pop down to mine, I'm not a million miles away. |

Thanks for the help, just come back from a mates who has a snap on diagnostics kit and he reckons it will do the job.
Going to order a new EGR and have a crack at replacing it before it lets me down. Cheers Nick |

Same symptons here, been considering replacing the EGR as well.
How good are the ones found on EBay? Most seem to be from the same supplier... One last note, in my case, it looks like premium fuel with additives make the EGR louder, whereas regular diesel with 2SO helps make it quieter... |
