is this what I should expect?
Firstly strangely enough I love my Defender despite its gremlins, however,

In the few months I have owned it;

Clutch replaced - spring collapsed
Indicators stopped working - relay
EGR valve failed and replaced
MAF sensor failed and replaced

In the last month I have driven the dealers XF more than my Defender while I waited for parts and fitting etc.

I know I should do it myself, but it is under warranty and I am time short due to work commitments.

So, is this the future?..... do I have to allocate every weekend to fixing something? 2 LandRovers, and counting!

Well, I've just had the pleasure driving a lovely Evoque due to the dealer replacing the seal of the crankshaft and gearbox, a completely new clutch because of the springs you mentioned and a leakage.
I have the car for over a year and a half and no matter how many times they fiddled with it, including replacement of the indicator stalk, it never stayed on making driving a 130 a bit dangerous in crowded cities because of the many cyclists we have.
They finally fixed it for ten minutes. I Now have to turn the I dicators off myself most of the time... Rolling Eyes
I lost count of the times I've driven Evoques and Freelanders in all kinds off specs, still love my 130 though.
Best of luck with your Defender! Mr. Green

They are not all like that. I have a 2010 model and other than factory recalls I've not had any problems with it.

Clutches are an issue sometimes as are egrs buy overall for a hand built vehicle they are good.. Enjoy ownership Thumbs Up

I believe it probably has to do with who built it for you. In my case I even had to fix the rear floor myself because they missed a whole line of screws along the bulkhead. Nevertheless, apart from it's problems it's a joy to own it. Cool

Cheers guys, and thanks for the membership of 'the bloody knuckle club'.

I am hopeful that once you have worked through it, you can enjoy it. I haven't even started bolting extra bits on yet! 2 LandRovers, and counting!

I have the same thoughts about my defender - 130 2008.. I spend about 4.000- 6.000 € a year to keep it driving - I know I have been in bad luck about engine - but overall - egr, clutch - clutch again, manifold, turbo etc… Have been looking at a brand new 4*4 160 hp Mercedes Sprinter with a 6 year service plan - but every time my 130 drives well I forget all about Mercedes…. 88 Ser. 3 1980 -sold

I run three 2.2 defenders, one being my Dailey drive. My 12plate with 65k miles has just been recovered under warranty with an oil pump failure, call today from dealer looking like a replacement engine. Dealer support great and we just love the defenders, hard working and just the job for our business. Wouldn't be without them.

I had over-luxurious VW Transporter van for a year or so. Very reliable, cheap to maintain and fuel efficient. I found it as boring as it was good. Forget about the Mercedes I'd say...

That is funny - i had a transporter 4*4 for about 8 months before I bought the defender I have now….Very boring... Laughing
When I bought my 130 I planned to keep it for 15 years + but now I am a bit worried about all the electronics in it… Confused
Best regards
