Hi all.
I'm on the point of depression with my defenders turning circle with 16" boost alloys fitted as standard. I was looking at pictures on the internet of boost alloys fitted with 30mm Terrafirma spacers and they look spot on in the arches. I would like to achieve the same look with new alloy or steel wheels fitted with all terrain or mud tyres but without the need for spacers if you could put a picture up in your reply and the spec of wheel & tyres it would really help me to start to enjoy my defender as I intended. Twisted 16x8 Alloys with ET0 Offset (33mm further out than standard. Running BFG 255/85/16 KM2s. Steering stops turned right in so now has a significantly tighter turning circle even than a standard truck on standard tyres. Click image to enlarge |

Here's mine on 9 x 18 Twisted wheels (0 offset) with 265/65/18 tyres. No wheel spacers and much improved turning circle.

I went to Devon4X4 yesterday & had my 16" Boost alloys replaced with MaxXtrax Mach 5 Alloy in satin black.
Negative 10 offset So stepping out a little bit further & for now I'll use the factory fit Continentals till they run low. I fitted Terrafirma spacers with the standard 16" boosts and adjusted the turning stops - best thing I've had done to the truck.
+1 for the dirt defenders (on the front of my 90) Defender Puma 2.2 XS 90 Vespa GTS 300 Way too many racing bikes. |

What size tyres do you have with the terrafirma spacers? Assume 265's hence the need for dirt defenders.
Reason for asking is i've got 235's and am thinking about fitting spacers but don't want mud sprayed up the side. |

Mine are 235s and with the 30mm spacers i got loads of cack flying up the side of the truck, both from the front and the back tyres. They're still within the wheel-arch eyebrow but just that little bit too wide at the bottom. I fitted the dirt defenders (smooth and colour-coded by my local bodyshop for £10 each) and it's cut the cack down by 95% if not more. Well worth doing for the improved turning circle. Easy to fit. With two rivets and two self-tappers per corner. 2003 Td5 110 Hardtop Now a 2013 110 USW too. |

Interesting thread, sounds like I need to get myself a set of spacers
I know I am completely thick, but if the OEM size is 235/85-16, can you put 265 on the same rim? If so, is there any benefit for performance in snow? Thanks |

you can put 265s on Boosts (the stock alloys) but not the steel wheels. Not sure about the HD wheels (Wolfs).
"Better" depends what you're after. If you want flotation then the 265s will be, but the 235s will dig in and grip better. |

255's are the biggest you should put on Wolf steels wheels as they are 6.5J rims. LR alloys are 7J hence ok for 265's.
