I had the same type of issue with my 200TDI. Turned out to be cheap battery clamps from China, they looked ok but the screws holding the cable in the clamp would work lose, or at least once i changed them out for decent ones I seem to have had no issues...........probably fail to start now i've typed this

The spider that you mention is fitted to Discovery 1's and can cause starting problems. As DaveT says pull it back of and couple it up to a battery and run it on a bench. Give it a spray round with electrical contact cleaner

Also check you have a good earth from the battery. A quick way to do this is place a jump lead on the negative terminal and the other clamp on a good earth point engine, chassis etc.

Very strange. I pulled out the starter again. Bench tested it and could only bypass the solenoid to get the starter moving. I removed the solenoid, looked at it and put it back on, bench tested it again and it worked with the solenoid. Installed it and it works fine. Odd. The only thing I did was 'think' it would work this time! lol
Thanks for the info... now on to all the other problems. |
