fitting an internal single hoop roll cage in a D90
I've got a hoop to install in my 90, will i need to remove the roof from my station wagon to enable the fitting? 1990 Defender 300TDi

Depends on how big it is.....

And how long the legs are, if it has spacers between the bar and the inside of the roof, all sorts of things.

Probably... it depends on the design, as above.

IF you can't do it without then bear in mind that you don't need to unbolt the roof as such. It's simpler to unbolt the windscreen hinges (if you have proper windscreen hinges, even better, you just need to undo the stay bolts), unbolt the bottom of the rear sides form the back body (a few nuts on each side - 3 in most cases) and then you can simply lift the rear of the roof a few inches in one piece complete with headlining and trim. A block of wood at each side to support it and you can fit the hoop then lower it back down again.

That way you don't have to break the seal between the windscreen and roof and don't have to remove the headlining. If you don't have "proper" hinges at the bottom of the windscreen, make sure it doesn't slide forwards off the bulkhead when you lift it at the back. http://www.yorkshireoffroadclub.net/
