10 years? Doesn't seem enough for such scum bags, and they'll probably be back on the streets in 3 to 5, or less...
Shame it is only one pair of rogues though, from the thousands still freely roaming the country... Rog... The GREEN One... MY2016 Urban Truck Build Thread - http://www.defender2.net/forum/topic40548....al[/color] |

I'd have stood on the door (assuming it was on its side, as they'd rolled it) so he couldn't open it from inside.... one less oxygen thief for us taxpayers to support. |

Typical misleading reporting - what use is the combined jail sentence, except to make the punishment sound less inappropriate than it inevitably is?
Loathesome scumbag 1, Grange-Smith, who was tragically rescued from the burning vehicle by two brave but misguided Police officers, was sentenced to to 4 years and 3 months for four counts of burglary, four counts of theft, one attempted burglary, and one ABH, one breach of suspended sentence, and asked for 6 other offences to be taken into account. So FIFTEEN serious offences! That's roughly 3 months per. Pathetic. Loathesome scumbag 2, Middleton, was sentenced to 5 years and 9 months for four burglary, four theft, one dangerous driving charge, one contempt of court, and asked for 21 other offences to be taken into consideration. So in his case that's THIRTY-ONE offences, or roughly two months per. Even more pathetic! It is no wonder that this kind of unacceptable behaviour is so widespread. I don't really understand how a "high speed pursuit" reaching "100 mph" can last an hour and only cover 40 miles, unless it includes a few Defender breakdowns plus refuelling. |

When will the courts realise that they are perpetuating the crime wave in this country?
Dish out meaningful punishments, 10 years should mean 10 years. If you are found guilty of 3 serious offences on 3 court cases within say a 10 year period then you are going down for a 10 year stretch. Brendan |

Wildly off topic, it made me think of that chap who was jailed for a couple of months in Morocco for being gay, and seen out & about with his partner (aside from the fact that apparently they wern't doing anything offensive, a neighbour grassed them up)
But when he got back to the UK (funny how they come running back home when they get a dose of foreign custody) he was bleating on about how bad the Moroccan prison was... dirty/cramped/blah blah... And? it's PRISON... a deterrant to make you not want to do whatever it was you did, again.... Ours should be like Shawshank.... |

Yes, to all of the above comments regarding prison time, HOWEVER. they should also be made to pay for it. Ditches cleared, verges picked clean of litter etc. etc.

Chris, that is soft.
On my travels in Nepal once I saw a lady earning her daily wage. A big pile of stones, a small hammer and she was making gravel! That could be done in prison yard in return for food. No work, no food Prison riot, burn their bedding, wreck their cells. No problem, don't issue them with new stuff. Human rights? Errr sorry what about your victims human rights! Brendan |

Wow. This thread got out of hand quickly.
Think back to where you were 3-5 years ago and imagine that you'd spent all the time since then in prison. I'm all for swift and heavy punishment but surely spending 3-5 years of your life in prison is enough. After that, tag em, watch em and if they repeat then really ramp up the sentence. Cheers, David Land Rovers of all shapes S3 onwards… Daily is a 110 V8. |
