New parts: flywheel, clutch assy (2nd), gearbox (1st), transferbox (3rd), rear lockdoor, turn switch, passenger front handle, etc

Absolutely not. But I think you are wrong. Jap stuff is more reliable and better quality. I have the impression Defenders went down the slope by having the Ford hand behind. For sure Series II and III were more reliable.
However, in the long term the only rig will see running forever is a LR (and maybe an Unimog).

I have to say that having had 3 LR before (Series) none of all let me down, even working on 2 cylinders and a hanging carburator. IMHO the most serious issues on the Puma are the 5hity clutch (can let you down), quality control and bad dealers. All rest you can manage to reach a safe spot. Puma 110" SW

This worries me greatly and the issue about quality control perhaps the most troubling aspect of buying a new Defender. I sold my TD5 about 18 months ago and have been hankering after a new 110 xs for some time. The urge is strong but it is posts like yours that put me off.

I love Defenders but when spending that much money on something new I do at least expect it to be put together properly. My current thinking is to skip the current generation car, run a new Hilux for 3 years and then hope that the Defender replacement is available by then and does the job. A Hilux doesn't have the soul or image of a Defender but at least it won't spend any time in the workshop and the running costs are minimal.

I love mine, MPG is great (up to 32MPG), no gearbox/cluth issue, gear changing is soft and it's a pleasure to drive.

It's got a bit more then 10,000 km on the clock now, maybe there are tons of issues just waiting to happen, I don't know, we'll see.

All cars from all makes can have issues, that's why you are covered by a warranty when you buy it new (if cars were faultless, there would be no need for a 3 year warranty).

Reading the various posts on this forum and others, I do believe that early 2007 models did have issues, but most have been sorted now. In the end, I think it all comes down to your dealer, if you are lucky enough to find a helpful and knowledgeable dealer, you'll be fine.. YMMV, that's just my opinion and it comes without any warranty Wink

But to be honest with you, if you are too worried, I'd say don't buy one. If you do, you'll keep looking for the fault Smile And if you still want to buy one, you know there can be fault, nothing is perfect, ever....

I've had mine since a little under 5K miles. Aside from some minor gearbox/propshaft clunking (still driveable in spite of this) and minor hassle getting the dealers to sort it, it has been trouble-free (touch wood).

I wouldn't swap mine for anything else out there.

I have a 10/2007 Defender. Just clocked 30,000 Km. Had clutch replaced at 20,000km as well as transfer output seal relplaced. I purchased the vehicle with 13,000Km on it. The listed repairs are common for that year.

So far mine is runnung well, no leaks (inside or outside), gearbox ,while truck-like, is fine with no issues with change in general apart from being a bit nothchy when cold. I am happy with mine so far.

Sold an 07 Hilux dual cab 4B for the Defender. Hilux was a great vehicle but always wanted a Defender. Off road, there is no comparison - different planets. Defenders rule!
