I currently have the black KBX front grille and I am thinking of changing this back to the original Defender Grille, but would like to paint this Gloss Black (it's currently Brunel Silver) - what would be involved in this - will the whole bumper need to be sanded first to gain a perfectly smooth finish, etch prime, gloss spray paint then clear lacquer?

That's exactly what I did, sanding, one layer of prime, 3 layers of gloss black, 1 layer of clear lacquer. With a careful wet sanding (highest grit) between layers.

I am very pleased with the result!

Why laquer over gloss black?

Just extra protection I guess. Lots of stones/flies etc which quickly took the paint off the last time I painted a star. Now I know better!

Primer & lacqer required! Cheers, David

Sorry only saw that! Extra protection as mentioned. Makes it easy to clean and gives me the confidence the black paint won't be the first thing to flake off Smile
