Apparently there is a drain underneath that gets clogged, dunno where but somebody will be along to advise you,or your aircon wants fumigating, google "air-con bomb". Pov.spec,ftw. 2006, 110,TD5.

clear out all the leaves and crap (holding water and rotting) in your heater intake on the wing top Cheers, David

air con drain is a rubber tube bit sticking out of gearbox tunnel above the gearbox inline with the heater box inside
as said put a air con bomb through it , google comma air con cleaner , get them from motor factors or halfords etc about Ł8 basically a disinfectant spray to kill the bugs in the heater box that cause the mouldy musty smell |

Ok, thanks for the replies. Tomorrow looks like a good day to take screwdrivers out and pay a visit to Halford and also sourcing a snow cowl from somewhere not to have to repeat this too often ...

yeah, not too tricky a job.
First remove anything from the vent, then put the AC ON and the heater on full and fan on full (air from outside, not recirculate) and leave it for a few minutes, good way to get everything moving/dry/warm, then see if the smell returns. that's what i do semi-regularly anyway and keeps me smell free then go for a bomb afterwards if required Cheers, David Land Rovers of all shapes S3 onwards… Daily is a 110 V8. |

I looked earlier and it's only a few bolts, although I may have to take the checkerplate off
I am not sure the recirculate switch works anyway ... It used to be really hard to move from one side to the other and then something gave and it moves as if nothing. I guess I'll figure out tomorrow! |

Not sure you need a snow cowl, but a pair of KBX Air Intakes might do the job and still look good (from Mud Stuff I believe?)... Rog... The GREEN One... MY2016 Urban Truck Build Thread - http://www.defender2.net/forum/topic40548....al[/color] |

I recently put an Entreq cowl on mine.
This is after taking the vent off the top and felt the drain hole 90% blocked with pine needles and leaves! This is on a 5 months old (regularly cleaned and pampered) car! |

Did the job this morning. It was a pita to remove the plastic bit in front of the heating fan - it's a tight fit in there. I actually managed to shift it enough to clean the bottom of it. The whole thing was full of water with the three drains blocked with mud.
Anyway, it's done now And I'll definitely get the snow cowl, as I have the KBX covers and they were not sufficient to prevent muddy water to get in! Entreq is out of stock but there is a nice military metal one on the auction site that will just require a coat of black paint. Thanks again for the tips Marc |
