Recommend a head unit
Right, the ancient Sony which replaced the ancient Kenwood in my 90 is now dying, and I'm after replacing it.

Mechless is probably better, one less thing to get full of water and dust.

Must be iPod/iPhone compatible via USB and have REAR socket for that (again, front socket will be dust and water filled).

No point directing me to top-end stuff, the 90 is either flap-flap-flappppp-flap-flap-flap or swooooooooooooooooooooooosh which drowns out any kind of fidelity Shocked

Bluetooth is probably pointless for the same reason as above Laughing

Ideally to have buttons for volume up and down, but I cannot find anything without a dial nowadays. Maybe volume control will just have to be a bit hit and miss.

Green illumination, not blue or red or orange or yellow. Green please Mr. Green

I have found the Sony DSX-A42UI which other than the volume control, and front USB (but a cover over it) fits the bill @ Ł45.

Any recommendations?

Happy to buy second hand if someone has something which fits the bill going spare Smile  1988 90 Td5 NAS soft top

maybe a bit higher budget but i loved my asteroid, and i know a few others on here have them.

available for ~100 secondhand, and has genuinely the best bluetooth handsfree/music system I've used, and 4 rear USB inputs, external mic, 3.5AUX in, etc etc.

Can also use bluetooth hotspot or a USB dongle to get internet for internet radio etc if you're into that kinda thing... I never used that, just found it the best single DIN head unit available. Cheers, David

I've got this in my Defender:

Dial for volume and front USB with cover again I'm afraid, but illumination is customisable and can do various shades of green. DAB radio, and bluetooth so maybe a bit too fancy? Wink

I don't really have a budget, and it's a good recommendation Smile

Problem is I think it's probably a bit "good" and will get trashed in a soft top 90, if the winter damp doesn't get it the summer dust will. The internet/apps stuff is pointless for me as 3G phone signal is virtually non-existent round me.  1988 90 Td5 NAS soft top

Got a windscreen dab aerial on mine. Fitted it in front of rear view mirror so tucked nicely out the way

Pioneer, sound reproduction easily as good as (a lot of peeps say better) Alpine, build quality not brilliant, reliable enough but very cheap feel to them. The very best are Pioneer (again) Reference series, but they aint cheap.Keep checking halfords website for when they have a sale and grab a bargain. Pov.spec,ftw. 2006, 110,TD5.
